Honor Marie is my Travers pick . He's got experience with the distance. His main competition will be Sierra Leone and he hasn't crossed the finish line first in a minute. He's a deep closer and he's sneaky. Nobody will even see him coming up wide from the rear. He IS the wise guy horse. Watch and see!! All the other superstars will be too tired to make up ground when he's making his move Tyler will make his move long before Sierra LEONE will . YOU will be pleasantly surprised. Watch and see!!!

This horse is very live! Last race moved this horse forward. Training better than he ever has. Will get the right set up but more importantly will get a mile & a quarter for the first time. Will appreciate that.

Dornoch has won at Saratoga over the same distance against the best three year old horses in racing, and he beat them fairly and squarely. Since then he won in similar fashion against the best in training in the Haskell. He is training well, and has had no set backs. He has shown in three graded stakes races, over two years, the speed to get his trip and the tenaciousness to not let other quality horses pass him. I’m putting my money on the leading horse for Horse of the Year and seeing if anyone is good enough to beat him.

I think this horse would have to burst into flames to win this race. What a great horse and I love watching him run it's just we got some good ones in here. And I think there's going to be some speed. After all my contemplating Sierra Leone is my pick for this year's Travers stakes.

He is one of the closers with s.l and c.p. usually don't like adding blinkers 4 big races but this is different cause he already in big races in k.d. and belmont without the change so nows the time 2 make the change. Remember honor code honor a.p. late developing types. Not sure why the jockey change though. Gd.luck.

I think Honor Marie needs a breakneck pace and needs Sierra Leone to have an awful trip. If Honor Marie breaks before Sierra Leone in the stretch run, and all the front runners are gassed, there's an outside shot. Very unlikely in my opinion, but that's why we race. Definitely needs a better trip than the last two races. 20-1 could be a bomb. I expect him to go off lower though. 12 or 15-1.

Matt, thanks for starting these videos early. The early Travers overview was lights out. As an aside, you are one of the few handicappers that breakdowns the entire Louisiana Derby every year. Your La Derby picks are scary good, early prep cards are difficult. Glad you are NYRA and hope you are going to use the Travers format on all of the races. Heard Marie gets blinkers

Dornoch will be leaving for the lead and we know he can win from the front end or sitting off the leader but I hope to see him race from just off the pace. Rating him didn’t work in the Bluegrass but it was obvious he had run in the derby even after all the adversity. If Batten Down or Unmatched Wisdom go hard for the lead Dornoch could slip in behind and come with his run 3 wide on the turn. We haven’t seen his turn of foot because he was on the lead in the Belmont and the Haskell but we have seen the stamina, and if he gets first run on the leaders they won’t catch him. I see the main threat as Sierra Leone and hope to see a thrilling stretch drive reminiscent of the Remsen from last year, with a similar result.

Brilliant as always Matt. Your analysis of Fierceness is spot on. I'm firmly in the camp that Thorpedo Anna won the post position draw. She and Hernandez get to sit in the pocket and save allll the ground. I have to look deeply into 3, 4 and 5, but I'm having a hard time shaking the vision that Anna takes the lead going into the stretch and it's just a matter of whether or not Prat and the Freight Train can run her down. I kind of think he will, but I'm aiming to be alive to both. Completely agree that the Jerkens is one of the races of the year.
