Hey, have a design question. WIth the leg tennons going through the top, wouldnt that restrict the expansion/contraction of the top? Or since the rails are at the bottom of the base, the top of the legs can move a little bit?
@JesseTradesNQ25 күн бұрын
thats actually crazy! Im not surprised though, all the brand name things are typically made from 1 or 2 factories in china - the Temu one is probably made in the same factory just not stamped with an overpriced name brand that has tens of thousands of dollars of marketing behind it.
@OneManBandWoodworks24 күн бұрын
100% correct, I think the best example of this might be Bridge City Tools who went from manufacturing in the USA to China and maintained the same pricing, then Banggood started selling Bridge City Tools directly from China both as branded and unbranded. I bet their lawyers never saw that coming when they handed over all of their designs.

Nice demo! Companies no longer have any pride in the products they sell. It's not about making the best products anymore, it's about making the most profit.
@OneManBandWoodworks24 күн бұрын
Yep and it's also partly on the consumer for always demanding a cheaper product without carrying about quality. I always look for the best price to buy a certain item, I'll research first and decide the highest quality version of a particular tool I can afford them look for the cheapest way to buy it. Sadly this is usually Amazon who I don't like supporting or I'll find a hardware store in the USA, call them and arrange a visa purchase offer the phone then find a friend who lives close by and can take it to the post office for me. I end up saving a lot and getting access to product that our lazy retailers don't have and aren't interested in ever ordering

I've bought a $116 festool pilot/countersink bit for melamine construction, a $30 snappy and a $25 smartbit and none of them match the $5 bits I've bought from Temu in terms of sharpness, durability and most importantly just how little effort is needed to countersink - this is a big deal when you insert 2500 screws on the average kitchen build

@OneManBandWoodworksАй бұрын
Thanks bro, I find that forstner bits need to run at 2000rpm both according to manufacturer's guides and experience, at lower speeds they tear out and wonder The manufacturer's recommended speed for metal is 650rpm so respectfully I think I'll keep doing what I'm doing

Yeah for some reason any house I do that was built in the 90s is the worst
@Simon_W745 ай бұрын
Shoddy builders are everywhere. I was on a site here in the UK where the Bricklayers didn't use any brick ties between the inner blockwork and outer brickwork, they had to pull down each house that they had worked on. Then inspect the others to see if they were the same. Being able to see light through mortar is quite worrying as it should be edge to edge and at least pointed on the outside, some want it pointing both side if the cavities. Been well over 20 years since I last worked on a site. We also had the Insulation drive by our Government and there will have been companies that will have seen it as a golden ticket to not do the work to spec and cut corners to make as much on each house that they could. Companies see the Government is picking up the tab, and then up the price. See it done a few time. My Dad used to work for a large Hydraulic Company, he used to build test rigs and if they got an order in from the Government they would make the price up by 200%. as they knew the Government would simply pay. Not thinking that they would have to pay yet more in tax to cover it in the long run.

Looks like the Bloke that owned my House traveled Down Under and fitted Kitchen their too. He put wall cabinets up on a baton, totally bypassed the wall hangers, and never fitted them, instead used penny washers through the 5mm hardboard back panel, and for good measure as they didn't think that was safe enough to hold the weight inside the cabinets they then added L brackets to the tops of the cabinets. They should have been banned from any Hardware shop for life and banned from even lifting a paint brush. as they painted over sockets and light switches, even the radiators didn't escape. The Bloke was going to do some work on my Brother in Laws house as he was Married to is Auntie. So in the end I ended up doing the work and we are all glad of that. Sadly I have had to deal with the Blokes bodges over the years of slowly renovating and repairing what the bloke screwed up royally.

I seem to always end up dealing with someone like that's work every job I do. It's very frustrating. One of the tall cabinets had no studs behind it so it was glued to the wall rather than using some hollow wall anchors

@@OneManBandWoodworks He was working on the house when he owned it. I have a toilet that is on a 12" Plinth to get the correct drop, as he didn't want to remove the old soak away trough that runs along the side of the house. It was partly removed. It is a bigger job due to how close the boundary with next door is. That is my next job putting the toilet on the floor and removing the trough. I was tempted to put the toilet back where it once was when it was a Shop, which would have been the quicker way to do it. I will eventually do that as once the kids have left home one of their downstairs rooms will be made into a wet room. We at one point had one and a half badly installed kitchens. As the bloke tried to have what was the shop as a holiday let, and I guess it flopped as he then rented it out, before his Wife moved into it as their Marriage broke down. Every single room has had something bodged by him. I have had to take out a door frame to square it back up as it was really out of square. I was more surprised by the fact that I hadn't noticed. He did have a Builder Friend work with him, normally straight after the pub by the look of things. like the raised toilet.
