Hey so I got hit by a fox up smash at 500% and I held in (I pushed the stick really hard) and I still died, what am I doing wrong?

Ah, this is a common beginner mistake. In this scenario you instead should have turned the gamecube off

Seriously just picked up melee for the first time. The hardest thing for me so far is L canceling, especially with a fast fall. Coming from ult and using the right shoulder button on a pro controller to jump gave me full control of my character’s drift while using an Ariel. Now using a GameCube it’s quite the learning curve as well lol
@meleefromscratch18 күн бұрын
I had the same issue when I first started. Don’t give up on it! Melee is a game where even the simplest things like controlling your drift will require some work but it’s incredibly rewarding as well.

As an 'old head' who never got the chance to play because locals weren't available during that era where I lived and money was such that it wasn't feasible to begin, I had to remain a distanced participant and online viewer. Now, with the advent of Slippi, I can actually improve and learn but this is the EXACT kind of content I was looking for to help me make those first steps towards a chance at competing legitimately at least once. Thank you.

This might be a dumb question but how do I up-b offstage without wasting my jump? I always turn off stick jump in ultimate and I have had a hard time adapting to stick jump in melee.
@meleefromscratchАй бұрын
This can be tricky, but there is a dead zone where it will register the up input without registering the jump, similar to doing an up-tilt. You can also buffer the direction while you’re in hitstun or the animation/lag of something else. There also aren’t many cases in melee where you’d want to save your double jump before UP B because I don’t think anyone is actionable after their up b until they grab ledge or land

"So why do we go to platform? Because now, to laser you, Falco has to use his brain..." I sub'd. I'm a Falco.
@mintme1876Ай бұрын
For practising aool/aoos, there’s an option in the osd menu of unclepunch where you can activate a little box that’ll pop up every time you act out of some sort of lag, telling you how many frames it took for you to input smth. I heavily recommend it.

Its important to note that you can buffer rolls/spotdodges with the cstick. That way you dont have to practice timing it with the main stick
