When Joe 'insulted' him - and he did - the Nucky in earlier seasons should have just leant forwards and said 'I'm sorry, was it three or four kids you have? Just so I get it right.' If Joe was so smart, you're careful about who you insult. He could get away with it with Season Five Nucky.

For anyone who didn't get the title, Nucky was trying to seduce Joe into making a big liquor deal in earlier scenes. When they ate together, Nucky turned away wine because Joe didn't want to drink with him. A good boy on his best behaviour trying to make a good impression. What Nucky didn't realise was that Joe was onto him the whole time and this scene shows his awareness of Nucky's business tactics as Joe lays a glass of liquor in front of him as if to say, "I see you plain and clearly Nucky Thompson". It truly is a great scene. I've always told my friends who watched the show never to binge watch it as there are so many subtleties that take time to sink in and you miss them if you rush.

The Kennedy Empire was built on a foundation of lies and thieves. They deserve every single inch of tragedy bestowed upon their family. They are not American royalty. The Kennedys are merely corrupt thugs.

Joe was actually a cool guy. He hands Nucky that drink while basically saying he is going to go indulge in his own vice (the dancer Kitty) as if to let Nucky know that they really are not that different.

Big difference between Joe and Nucky here. Joe talking about handing things down, "one generation, that's all it takes"; his whole frame is forward-thinking. Nucky talks about "leaving something behind", basically just wanting to leave a metaphorical headstone to his own achievement when he's gone.

If you take a look at Joe Kennedy's life, you realize why people talk of the Kennedy curse. His oldest son Joe Jr. was meant to be his successor, the guy who was supposed to run for office one day to catapult the Kennedy family into the highest social classes. He was killed during the war in 1944. His next child was JFK and we all know what happened to him. His oldest daughter Rosemary had severe mental problems, her father arranged for her to get a lobotomy when she was in her early 20s and she was kept from the public and institutionalized for the rest of her life. His daughter Kathleen died in a plane crash in 1948 when she was just 28 years old. And finally Bobby Kennedy who was shot and killed in 1968. Joe Kennedy died in 1969, so he had to live trough all of those tragedies.

The show is all right until they started focusing too much on females relationships. Ruined the last couple seasons by doing that and they made Nucky basically a pussy towards the end and others. They all became weak and pathetic, whiny and lost all their money stupid show that started out great. Also the crap about women being abused and childhood memories you could just skip all those episodes they are awful.
