A fine looking loco- immaculate. I can remember in late October 1965 travelling to Birmingham Snow Hill by train and seeing woebegone grimy Halls and Granges at Oxford MPD- smoke drifting from the chimneys of some and our train passed a few en route- they were hauling freight trains. Many Halls survived at Barry Dock and the boiler of this loco comes from that source. A few weeks later I did my last ever run hauled by steam on BR when a Manor unexpectedly took our train from Redhill to Reading. It must have been 7829 Ramsbury Manor as 7808 the other active Manor had a 4,000 gallon tender at this time and she was thrashed over the Surrey Hills- we had quite a run to Reading. I have seen a photo taken of her withdrawn at Gloucester Horton Road with a very rusty smokebox- probably because she was given a hammering in her last days in action. I can still in my mind see the crew on the footplate as she pulled into Redhill with the train.

A really clever and original approach to filming a loco.... any GWR modeller will be able to get the rivet count right now.... not that I ever have 😉 Thanks for a very enjoyable sequence of detail shots!🤗

I didn't get to choose what the band played, if I was to follow the timeline, the band actually played before Furness arrived at Watchet but I felt the clip would be better placed at the end of the video. Glad you liked the rest of the video 🙂

It was because one of the door handles on the GWR set was not in the closed position

Possibly a door not shut properly as the platform staff noticed as the coaches passed him.
@DavidLovesTrains3 ай бұрын
Will be, platform staff look at the door handles to see if the door is shut as the handle has to be facing a horizontal to be shut.

I can confirm this, the GWR stock arent fitted with slam doors and are more prone to being open
@DavidLovesTrains3 ай бұрын
@@RailFanAthena As I volunteer at Kidderminster Station, we have to look more carefully with the GWR stock, we also do the same with other stock as sometimes people don't shut the doors fully or not at all.

any idea why for emercency stop ?
@taylord95873 ай бұрын
judging by what’s usually the cause at the SVR, most likely a door handle not in the right position

Pretty sure it was for a door not closed properly
@heritage00013 ай бұрын
Reviewing the footage all the handles were in the correct position

most likely a false alarm then, happens quite often at the SVR
