The easiest way is to get a delivery job and some experience driving G class trucks, which could include anything from cargo vans, small cube vans, downgraded straight trucks which use hydraulic brakes rather than Air brakes and are the same size as large straight trucks but have a lower weight limit. I've been doing that for over 20 years myself and I have driven some big trucks. I learned to drive Standard on one of those downgraded DZ trucks. I started a new job 3 months ago as a backup driver, driving a big truck, downgraded to a G class with hydraulic brakes. Long distance. I covered the main driver the week leading into Christmas, and it was interesting. I like the job, it pays better than any job I have ever had, has the best benefits I have ever had and I like the few people I work with but I need to go higher. I had a plan to stay at this place for at least a year, while I pay the roughly $3000 for a course and upgraded licence so I can start making much more money for the rest of my working career. I don't want to leave the place anytime soon, I like it, but like I said, I need to go higher professionally, soon. Within a year. I should have done this a long time ago. I am an excellent driver, plenty of experience, it's just a matter of understanding Air Brakes because I do want to understand. I don't want to just get a licence I want to learn and understand. I am not one of those Arab knuckleheads who are literally clowns being the wheel of these tractor trailers, got their licence out of a Cracker Jack box, yesterday. I have seen some clowns out there. The driving is second nature to me. So I had my 3 month review, today. I mentioned wanting to get a licence upgrade to my direct manager a few times. It's in my sights. I guess he mentioned it to my boss, who gave a me a good 3 month review. They like me here, I like it here, I like the job. My boss also thinks I can upgrade my licence through them which means they could turn our truck into an truck with Air Brakes which allows us to raise the weight limit from around 7400 lbs to whatever, I think it's 12,000 or something like that. She's looking into it. I like that idea, it would cost me thousands out of my own pocket, which I am prepared for, I could pay cash, but you know... it's like I want to benefit myself later in life. That is my motivation for it. At the same time, it's hard for me if these people like me and appreciate me and my work enough to look into such things, to get me to stay I feel I'm obligated to take it and stick around for a while. Good crew. Small crew which I like a lot. I hate stuffy, tight places with a lot of BS, BS jobs, politics, incompetence and people I don't like. Like my last job which I quit without backup and got hired here a week and a half later. In think anyone could do it, but I do believe you do need some experience. Without experience It would be like me saying "I want to become an accountant...."

And I only say "Arab" knucklehead because one time that sticks out in my mind is delivering produce to a grocery store, me sitting there waiting for a truck to get done, Coke or a Chip truck, one of those guys that takes an hour or 45 minutes to do his thing, delivery truck etiquette. As the guy bullet done, this other guy comes flying in there, tractor trailer, completely forgot gnores me there, and starts backing in terribly. This guy had no idea what he was doing. He had no business beind the wheel of a tractor trailer. I wondered if he actually had a licence. It Led me off enough, I jumped out of my truck "HEY! What are you doing man!? Iwas sitting here, what are you doing? He's looking at me stunned, he couldn't even speak English. But he pulled away, let me in. I went in and enen the receivers were laughing. Like wth is that? What is this guy doing with a licence? He doesn't even understand the etiquette of get in line. Do you just get here yesterday from Mumbai? I also think of this kid I worked with in 2008, 09,10. He was going to the community college here for theater. Maybe production. Maybe acting, maybe both. But it's like why? Why would you waste your money on that? Kid. I thought he was a goof at first. Some goofy kid. We were driving small ome ton box trucks the.nactually I was driving ng the larger standard truck then too. I was the hot shot at this place then. This kid was living in some old lady's basement, going to school for theater, no car. I remember seeing him walking to work in the dark, winter, my brother in the passenger seat "stop...pick him up" which I did but he won me over slowly. We were in the trenches. I liked him. I gave him my X360 with a broken drive when I bought a new one. No discs, but he could download games if he wanted to. I left there in about 2010. Apparently the owner at the time offered to get him a DZ licence so he could drive one there. He picked up a few distribution drops. He agreed, and got his DZ licence for free on the word that he would stay for a year. The thing is he didn't sign for it. So he got his licence, and the bailed shortly after. Which POed the owner, but there was nothing he could do. And honestly, he was cheap anyway. Good for Matt. Matt left for a better paying job, driving bigger equipment. Learning to drive bigger equipment. I looked him up the other day, he is at another bigger company, one that actually does training, a transport place, right across the street from where I work currently, a well know, big company, driving a tractor trailer. Flat bed. Got himself a girl, he's posing with her beside his truck on what looks Christmas street image. He did it right. Probably never paid a cent. Although maybe he did too? At the time I left in 2010, I know I talked about it myself. I want to upgrade my licence. I probably will. I was planning on it but never got around to it. It may have had an impact on him. He left that place in 2012 himself.

What is the difference between AZ and DZ?
@robinsanabria368 Жыл бұрын
DZ is for straight trucks(Dump truck, garbage truck etc. AZ allows you to drive semi trucks(18 wheeler).

For anyone, I’m wondering if only D license is a thing? I need D license for new job. Will I have to still take az or dz training for this? I only have 8 weeks to get license or I’m not hired
@aj17pearce Жыл бұрын
You can roll with a D you will just have less options, unable to drive airbrake equipment

There's NO shortage of truck drivers, quit lying and say the truth, the thing is that an AZ driver is not going to work for $19 or $22 an hour here in Ontario. They used to earn $27/hr in 1999, but now with an influx of foreign drivers you want to pay less than 20 years ago. Pay them right and you will see there is no shortage of truck drivers.

The truckers shortage you talk about, is not what you are told. The OTA like all the other Trucking Associations, fabricated this story to get drivers to fill the seats being left by driver who quit. The Trucking Industry went from the Top Best 5 Careers to something I doubt even ranks these days. See that Logo, on the left. That Purple logo I my Organisation working to make This Industry better and more up to date. One area we are looking at is NOT allowing Class G into A. We want to see it go from G to D to A. I have also never heard of your school, and one are WE are looking into is the Training process and How school like your train New Drivers. I subscribed and Hope to find More updated videos instead of 3 year old ones..

Im not a driver yet but looking to change my career from auto mechanic to drive trucks. Youre right it makes sense going from G to D before going to A. You have to start off slow. They say the same thing about the auto industry that we have a shortage of mechanic, yeah right!!

I have been driving truck for over 30 years and i always laugh when i hear tuck driver shortage. The real truth is there is a shortage of good driving jobs. Drivers get out of school drive highway for some big company and get treated like crap and quit. If you want to have no life and make descent money then run highway. If you want to make good money and have a life at a local company good $%^& luck. There out there but they are far and few between. Thats why i laugh when i hear driver shortage. I bet if someone took a survey of people with AZ licences that actually drive truck than ones that dont i bet there would be more that have licenses that dont even drive anymore. If this comment gets posted i will be shocked
