This looks a lot like square dancing, which we did (tried to do) back in elementary school. 1950s - early 60s. Both of these forms are probably hanging on by a thread. Makes you wonder what other forms of music and dance have disappeared altogether.

I used to hang out backstage at the Opry every Friday and Saturday night with my friend Porter Wagoner for a couple years. His bodyguard was my friend and martial arts student and that is how we met and became friends. After the Opry we would go across the street to the Nashville Palace with a couple of the dancers that were a married couple and she was a great fiddle player who got to play it on the Opry too. I won't name them. But, people in the know will know who I am talking about. Today at the Wilson County Fair in Lebanon, Tennessee there is an event called Celebration with Melvin Sloan. It is at 6:45pm on the Opry Stage at the Fiddler's Grove Opry Pavillion. These dancers are incredibly talented. May God bless Melvin Sloan and his family. And, may he rest in peace.

Love this dance! Question: why do cloggers only do the 360 spin using their right leg? Never see the left one used.
@mjdonaldson90393 жыл бұрын
Haha! Well I can't speak for all Buck Dancers/Cloggers but my "power leg" is my left leg. I can balance on it and keep driving the rhythm with my leg foot. The 360 spin is called the "Wing". If you can do it on both sides, it is called the "Double Wing".

The song is "Sugar in the Gourd." Jimmy C. Newman, who introduced them, has been an Opry member since 1956. Earl White, the fiddler, was the last fiddler for the Crook Brothers, the last surviving original Opry members. Charlie Collins, the guitarist, worked with Roy Acuff for 25 years.

I was once on the Original floor clogging in my size two light up shoes 23 April 2005 ot the new Grand Old Opry, Porter Wagoner was the announcer and Earl White played fiddle and Charlie Collins was the guitar player, now how lucky am I. I sure wish there was a small video of this it was around 7:45pm Nashville time! I was so excited to get to meet and shake Former Legendary Porter Wagoner's hand sure!
