I just watched "A gun for George" and had to look up hydragas suspension, and got this music video about car suspension.

Hello, please may I use your video of the Tour de France coming through Tunbridge Wells in a nostalgia piece I am doing about things which have happened in Tunbridge Wells in the past 20 years? I am a reporter for Kent Live/Kent and Sussex Courier. If it is okay, would you mind emailing me on [email protected]? Thank you! Mary

Couldn't help laughing at the wind-down windas in the back, so they bothered to put in front electric windows but couldn't be arsed with the back, typical Austin/Rover management and marketing directors, they could've been world leaders with this and included some right advanced features in this segment I mean they had the technology and the heads to do it, just couldn't be effed to spend the time or money delivering a reliable car, and sometimes they struggled to get even that right, what a waste of the good folk talent who worked there, this car has soo much promise, not sayin it was a bad car, it wasn't but could've been soo much better in many ways.

Is there anyway to both convert or setup an Original / Innocenti Mini and Austin Metro to use the Hydragas like on the Rover Metro / 100 (R6), similar to Alex Moulton's prototypes?

I had a 1275cc HLS in Moonraker Blue. Possibly the best handling and most economical car that I have ever owned. They had a bad reputation but are strangely charismatic. I'd love another.

good video, is she still going now? I had a 1.0 city was gutless, the 1275 seems very nippy :)

My friend's mum and dad had a brown Princess 2200 Vanden Plas on an R reg in the early 1980's, they bought it from their neighbour.

The Allegro always used to remind me of a peanut on wheels especially the fawn colour like the one in this film, and the Princess/Ambassador a wedge of cheese on wheels lol... Just something when I was a kid and growing up!

Does anyone know when Alex Moultons Biography is supposed to be out?
@EdgyNumber115 жыл бұрын
It was inspired. However, Alex Moulton wanted a system that used a low pressure set up without th need for the complex pressurised system that the Citreon used. So whilst in modern terms the Hydragas isn't adjustable in terms of ride height, damping (if I am correct) can be controlled be replacing the restrictor in line of the interconnects, with simple valves you can screw open and closed. Genius!!!
@EdgyNumber115 жыл бұрын
I don't know why they didn't carry on using it because the system is quite simple and from a servicing point of view, incredibly durable.

The Citroen suspension is not exatly like the Hydrolastic / Hydragas of the cars in the video. Its something similar though.
@rozdog33316 жыл бұрын
I have a 1985 Vanden Plas Metro and a 1993 Rover Metro both using Hydrogas suspension, on the Vanden Plas front and rear suspension is not linked on the Rover it is - the improvement in ride quality is amazing! I also have a Bentley Turbo R which as you say is hydraulic using a special mineral oil - there is even a special compartment built into the side of the boot where 2 spare bottles of the oil reside as it does need topping up now and then! Metro's and Bentleys rock!
@htimsid16 жыл бұрын
@ dragonredx: do please check your data! No Citroën ever used Hydragas or Hydrolastic suspension. These are BMC/BL systems which use water (with additives) and gas (nitrogen or air). The Rolls-Royces and Bentleys to which you refer have metal springs but with hydraulic (i.e. oil) self-levelling, and a powered braking-system licensed from Citroën. Those Citroëns use a central high-pressure hydraulic system which can serve brakes, steering and suspension, the last of which also uses nitrogen.
