For anyone wondering, this performance is at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, 1973. He flew in for it, then promptly flew out. His only performance of this in Australia to my knowledge. Molly Meldrum played the part of Uncle Ernie in Sydney, talk about being robbed.

One of the singers worth seeing at least once. Show woman. Always having a crack band along. Costumes are plain fun, not sexual. Doing Sunday Girl intro with the bagpipes. When I have money, I have to collect your records and concerts. Some day, and the Sony 55' and Surround Sound for the ambiance.

It was not lost on me as a young man the DARK MEANING behind all of the theatrics of Tommy. It was like modern-day David Copperfield and the terrible treatment of youngsters at the hands of troubled adults. Pete Townshend was exorcising his demons and speaking the truth. Good on him.

Was all that echo on there before it was remastered?
@TheWhoMeWhy2 жыл бұрын
I think That has come about by keeping the original soundtrack and adding the new to it. When one gets to Sunday Girl and where the TV broadcast ends you just get the remastered CD recording (without any echo).

When the John entwistle band played Boris, they played the Jaws theme in the middle. Probably to spice it up since John said he found playing Boris boring.

Saw these guys live about three or four times, most definitely the loudest band around, definitely the birth of heavy metal. They weren't that popular but definitely one of my favorites
And to think, he didn't even have to get into character to pull it off. 😄🍻

If you thought Dick Clark had no understanding of contemporary music and just used it as a business opportunity, KZbin has him in a segment talking to the audience about the band beforehand and has an interview with them after they perform this song (an early touchstone of metal rock, indisputably). Clark comes across very well.
