@@dantespeakdigital Cool - that's easy enough! Very happy you decided to do a few new videos - I'm hopeful that you continue. Where does one go about getting licensed copies of the appropriate music (such as you were playing)? I've been rattling around on the trumpet on and off (totally amateur - I would be one of the better players in a home town band) for around fifty years. I still am too lazy and cheap to buy music - mostly because I'm not sure what I should be getting (in the form of practice music) and from what company(ies). Also, are there good exercises out there that are somewhat more melodic than others?

Mahler died before completing this work, more specifically in the orchestration, for which he had only written drafts. References indicate that from the drafts of the first and third movements , it has been possible to produce performing versions that would be close to Mahler's intentions. For the remaining movements, many attempts have been made to decipher as much as possible from the scratchy manuscripts, with varying results. Significant amounts of compositional work have been needed to get a performing version of the symphony. What you hear is a constructed framework allowing performances to give audiences some idea of what Mahler's possible intentions.may have been. I'm not sufficiently familiar with the tenth to recognize which version is being performed here, The "completed' work has the 5 movements Mahler had planned; 1. Andante-Adagio, 2. Scherzo, 3. Purgatorio, 4 Scherzo, 5 Finale. I haven't listened to this yet (that comes next), but from the 84 minutes of this performance. I am guessing it's one of the completed versions. [I've posted this for anyone interested in finding some info on this symphony.I'm no great expert, just a Mahler enthusiast.] Later - I'm really enjoying the performance. After preparing what I wrote above, I'm now sitting back letting the music wash over me - excellent. Would love to know just who the performers are. In the sparse material provided, there's mention of "2 Songs" - I shudder. There are no songs - "songs" are music that's "sung". The sins of Spotify etc.

This is the Deryck Cooke performing version of Mahler 10. It's the most universally performed version of the symphony. There's another KZbin video of this same performance uploaded by 'nonhalalstudios', and that video mentions that it's the Cooke version. There were numerous other versions, by Barshai, Clinton Carpenter, etc, even a piano version. It makes for an interesting read on the internet. Alma Mahler, Gustav's wife, who lived into the early 1960s, having earlier refused to coutenance a completed version of the symphony, finally gave her written approval to Deryck Cooke of this version once she'd seen the score.

@@G.v.5049 Lenny was a fool when it came to this. He was so set in his view that the 9th was Mahler's farewell to life (when it was more likely about trying to cope with the loss of his health, his job and his daughter), that he couldn't see that Mahler went on after it and that the 10th was all there in sketch when he died.

Hi Jon. Keep doing whatever you can for us. Lots of "internet" brass teachers out there. But as a Principal Chair, you are the real deal and have already provided us with some good, practical suggestions. I had a few lessons back in the fifties, think I was about 11. Then didn't touch the horn much for nearly six decades. Well, maybe a dozen times to attempt to squeak out some Christmas Carols. "Squeak" being the operative word! A few years ago I got serious and started practicing again. Slow going, probably intermediate level now, but starting to sound better. Still got lots of little issues to solve. But the most disturbing one is suddenly playing with what I call a "double buzz." Even after several pretty good days, my articulation disintegrates and parts of some notes sound very rough; not smooth or clear. Hard to describe. Just happened again today, and happened fairly early in my practice, so I can't blame fatigue. If you can find time to suggest a cure I'd be grateful. Will always continue to follow your channel.

Once while working a 3rd shift factory job, I was driving home at about 7:30 am...thirsty, I pulled into the parking lot of a local liquor store thinking that I would get some cold beer. When I took a moment and noticed the lot was empty, I bust out laughing, realizing that liquor stores aren't open at 7:30am. Tuesday morning in the Chicago suburbs is a great time for a trumpet hang. But since I'm no longer working 3rd shift I'll probably be drinking tea, not beer...not that there's anything wrong with that.
