Thats a turner! We had one on the back of our 770 back in the day, loads quicker than having it on the front 👌🏼

Very interesting structurally but apparently not aerodynamically. Also, in a crash, you’d have to worry about the engine and fuel behind you.

Definitely not a tedder if the crop was heavy it took ages rolling it over and over before it was fully dry especially around the hedge backs

As always, praise to those organizations that encourage our younger generation to continue the centuries-old tradition of playing the great instruments that are so abundant in the UK. It’s especially gratifying that this particular organ has since been totally restored, as such work was suggested to be needed by one of the respondents below. It’s these younger people in training who will benefit the longest in enjoying such rejuvenated instruments.

I’m always impressed by the courage of those pioneers like my Hero Maj Lanoe Hawker to get up in these flimsy little things and fight! The German pilots were armed with far better machines also could engage and disengage at will, as most engagement happened over their own lines!! Rest in peace Ancient Warriors!!

I was at east Kirkby, 5 years ago. My father was a rear gunner in the Lancaster bomber so he had a taxing ride on Just Jane, he was treated like a celebrity. As a lot of people had a lot of questions to ask him about the Lancaster bomber, during the war.

I had the same experience with my ex rear gunner dad at East Kirkby and Coningsby back in 1990. People were looking at him in awe.In fact after the visit the year before to East Kirby he was contacted by the mid upper gunner. My dad took me to see the Lanc when it was at Squires Gat in Blackpool in 1970 and we got in it.

Would a rotary engine be more powerful? Would a rotary engine make it harder to fly?
@kedrednael
@kedrednael Жыл бұрын
The rotary engine they used in WW1 had 100HP, the kinner engine from 1940 they installed in this plane is around 110-150HP? A rotary engine would make it harder to fly, since the entire engine is spinning as fast as the propeller. Most of the plane is made from wood and canvas, while the engine is a heavy metal block. So a large portion of the plane's mass is spinning at a thousand RPM. This causes turning to the left to be quite different than turning to the right. (like trying to rotate a spinning gyroscope). And changing the engine power makes the plane roll a bit. You could try it out for yourself in the simulator Rise Of Flight!
