don't worry, sargent used to redo a face 15 times before he got it right.. that's just part of the creative process. (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't)
@Bladebrush6 сағат бұрын
Yo this angle is my main struggle with faces…. The best thing that’s worked for me is getting my sketch book out and redrawing it like 100 times to figure out what I did wrong haha

@@distantlightsishimura2286 Doing a master study in reduced dimensions, in a different medium, while using the grid method is just not a good use of anyone's time, unless the sole goal is to produce a copy for your own personal enjoyment. She says she has no formal art training so how is any of this informative outside of just confided suffering. Nothing wrong with her making these videos, I was just pointing out that this is a bit of a silly exercise.

@@R0undbrushthe original painting is like 10 ft by 5ft or something, obviously she’ll replicate it in reduced dimensions. And I’m pretty sure she was just doing this for personal enjoyment, it’s not a “how to do a master copy” video. And also if you have critique, you can make it constructive. Not just a snarky one liner that accomplishes nothing.

One question. What's the original size the artist who did this painting do? Because I bet you the orginal was large and so you can do all those detail stuff and using all these techniques but when you reduce it to do a pencil of it smaller size, it becomes difficult.
@laneydreamsКүн бұрын
That’s a good point, and you’re totally right!! The original painting is 122 inches by 56 inches, which is pretty massive. Reducing it to 24x12 definitely made getting all the details in there way harder!

Your tanned nose is so aesthetic, and remember to also protect your skin from UV light 💙 Concerning Eve's face you did amazing considering that her face lacks details due to being in shadow and the head being titled upwards is always such an awkward pose to draw proportionally. Amazing drawing! Looking forward to the painted version. Do you have any problems with smudging for the darkest charcoal values? Thanks
@laneydreams3 күн бұрын
Thank you very much!! I definitely do have problems with those very dark charcoal portions of the drawing, so I try to mitigate it with layering. So I’ll draw in those dark values, blend out using a soft brush (and I’ll often carry over the excess on the brush to the mid-tone sections of the drawing) then reapplying and repeating until I get my desired level of darkness!
@NH-cc8il3 күн бұрын
@@laneydreams oh, ok, thank you for the reply. So the layering helps mitigate the smudging. I will try that!

What brush is that? The one you use for blending. I use the blending stumps but they always get so dirty. Anyways, it looked amazing. You’re very talented.
@laneydreams3 күн бұрын
Yeahh blending stumps can be tricky! I’ve moved to using brushes and q-tips exclusively because mine also were just so dirty and hard to clean. The brush I’m using is actually a *super* soft bristle round watercolor brush that I use only for graphite/charcoal. I’d tell you the brand but I got it like 8 years ago and the logo rubbed off lol. Also thank you so much!!

If I could draw 1% as well as you I’d be happy. It’s hard for me to even comprehend how an artist can just visualise and then sweep their pencil across the page to get the key lines correct the first time - never mind the shading afterwards. Clearly it takes a lot of practice - but I also think your brain needs to be wired in the right way to begin with. Looking forward to seeing the painting.
@laneydreams3 күн бұрын
Thank you!! When I was a kid I came to the realization that my brain perceives things as a series of shapes and colors- many parts that make up a whole- rather than just seeing the whole. If that makes sense. My other artist friends see things the same way! It does take lots and lots of practice haha
