The poor river got worked by major floods in the past couple of years. Though it's been almost 20 years since I paddled it 😢😢 the first rapid (Rose Garden), just below the lake put-in, was one of my favourite rapids anywhere: an ominous horizon line to start, and lovely, continuous eddy hopping which finished in the meaty, uh, meat-grinder drop; It now looks completely wiped out and is just a constant, dull sluice. Looking at your video, it looks like several ledges were flattened and you've lost some pools and drops. Too bad. But the nozzle looked exciting (though I couldn't see what you walked around there; we never used to walk around that rapid. I did walk out, though, from the top of the canyon, once or twice when the water was crazy high). I never paddled "around the right-hand bend" near the bottom, into the rapid that went under the train trestle; that was all class V. Those bare trees likely resulted from a similar, long ago re-sculpting of the riverbed at high water.

I had my buddy pass me at the end at the last 100 ft of the slide and he got the nastiest gouge in his boat I’ve ever seen.

I was going to say - should be done with a junk kayak (unless you've got plenty to spare or are a sponsored kayaker) . If it didn't rip through , like the one there.- it shaves off precious millimeter of material.

If you thought that was fun (and by almighty god it is!) then you need to come to the US and run the "water slide" at Tanaya Creek in Yosemite National Park. That thing is the drainage ditch times three. There is no adrenaline rush on the planet quite like it. Both the slide and Tanaya Creek would benefit greatly from a kayak elevator. Or maybe not. It's good exercise! Great run! More! More! More!
