It does take a bit of trial and error and experimenting, it also depends on the size of the ornament. The larger the ornament, the more pieces you need. The smaller, the less you need. When I was making these, I started with about 20 and then tested to see if when I pulled them together what it looked like. If it was stretching far too much and looked like it was straining, I would add more pieces (usually by 5's) until it no longer strained and went together easily. I kept count the entire time so that once I knew the correct amount, I wrote it down for that specific template so that I could make more. I hope this helps. 😍

I love the aesthetic, and the beeswax candles are really gorgeous! My safety thought is that the stockings would be better placed hanging off the side wall than from the candle holder, because this is a fire hazard that is not worth a cute vibe.

Oh boy. That is a difficult decision. I really like both of the layouts you are thinking about. But if I had to choose, I think I lean toward the one box instead of two. I guess it just looks cleaner to my eye. A little more restful, but still giving you some elegant texture. However, I am sure if you went with two boxes, it would still look amazing. It just depends how much texture you want to add. As for the size of the moulding, I would lean towards a little bit narrower for the boxes in comparison to the top horizontal piece. I think that is a better visual balance. I love your idea for adding another piece of moulding onto your baseboards. That will finish them off perfectly. By the way, the wall /trim color you chose is so nice. It's sophisticated and restful and beautiful.

You have some fabulous ideas! I really love the window seat idea. I want to put one in my dining room, but I need to convince my hubby about that one. My favorite idea is for the under the stairs closet and pull out drawer "closets". That blew my mind. I have never seen that before and it's ingenious! So very cool! Not to mention the Tadelakt painted shower. This is another thing you have introduced me to. I just looked up some information on it and I am intrigued and want to learn more. Thanks again for sharing your fun ideas. I am excited for your basement transformation.

Aww, thank you so much! I'm glad you like some of the ideas we're hoping to incorporate. I do like a window seat, especially if it's comfy... what a nice spot to just daydream and look out at the scenery... especially if there's a good view. I'm so excited about under the stairs, too 🤗 the hardest part will be actually deciding exactly how we want to do all the pieces. There are so many good options. Tadelakt Plaster is sooo cool, I agree. I do hope we can source some... I've not had much luck finding many places that sell it... but I haven't honestly tried that hard yet, either. Microcement is another great option if I can't find that, and it has a very similar look to it as well as being waterproof. Thanks again for your lovely comments. I'm so excited to get going on the basement, too

The cute table you made turned out great. Also, I like your decision to paint the door the same color as the walls. I think that was a good idea. I do have a question about skim-coating. When you sealed in the joint compound, did it feel like it would be really durable? Like it wouldn't chip off easily or scratch easily?
@awardofherown11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much. The sealer is more to seal in the joint compound. If left unsealed it is pretty porous and any paint that you place on top will get soaked up by the joint compound. Having the sealer/primer over it before you paint will really help in a better quality paint finish and truer paint color. As far as chipping or scratching, what I have encountered is that it is very similar to most drywall finishes in regards to that, if a piece of furniture bumps it, it could get a ding in it, if that makes sense that will need patching. It doesn't prevent damage...unfortunately...i wish. I hope that answered your question. Let me know if you have any more...happy to help.
@sunitac239711 ай бұрын
@@awardofherown Yes, thank you! That does help quite a bit. When you showed the chalkiness of the dry joint compound, it made me wonder about that. It sounds like it does a pretty good job. In all of your research, did you come across anyone using any other product besides joint compound for skim-coating? For my project, I want to add decorative molding of some kind in a few rooms and I know that people sometimes put flat paneling down first and then the molding, but that really adds to the cost. But with skim-coating, the cost should be significantly less. (Although, lots more work.) Luckily, our texture isn't too significant. I might be able to only need 2 coats. I used to live in a 1930's house with plaster walls and I just loved the smooth flat texture of them. I may eventually do all of my walls. We'll see how I do with one room and see how that goes. Thanks again.
@awardofherown11 ай бұрын
I did not come across a different product that you could use for skim coating actually. The all purpose joint compound was pretty consistent throughout all my research. I am planning on moulding also and I feel that having a smooth texture just looks better, cleaner and more professional. It is a lot of work that is true...but not too bad though if that kind of stuff doesn't bother you. Oooooo I love plaster walls! Hopefully that helps a bit.
@sunitac239711 ай бұрын
Okay. Good to know. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions. I am so excited that you are planning on adding wall moulding also. How fun. There are so many amazing ideas out there to really make a dramatic difference in a room. Yes, I loved the plaster walls we had, but the down side was that the outside walls of this house had no real insulation. It was called brick-on-brick and the insulation was a gap of air between two layers of brick. Then the inside wall was layered with lath and plaster. Just crazy. But the house did have lots of charm.
@awardofherown10 ай бұрын
Of course 🥰... I'm happy to chat and help. I agree there are lots of cool things you can do to add that extra touch of detail to a design. That does sound like it could have been a challenge to deal with, and I'm sure it had lots of charm. Hopefully, the new owners kept a lot of that.
