One of the best bothies, as someone said. I visited this about 30 years ago when there was a guy who looked after the place. The story he told was much the same, that the two sons were killed in WW1 and the father never got over his grief. The story changes here: the family built the bothy to move out of the original one across the stream because they were sometimes flooded out by heavy rain coming down off the hills. A couple of other memories from the visit; I hooked a huge ferox trout in the burn. It broke my line, and in the Lochan at the top of Glen Pean there were a number of pike sunning themselves together at the far end. Lots of small trout.

@@billguyan1913 Interesting regarding moving out the first building to the one that’s now the bothy because it makes sense, the area near the ruins is a marsh even during the summer. Yes people from the estate still fish in that top Lochan, I haven’t seen any fish in the river Pean that runs below the bothy, water is crystal clear though.

Your positive attitude to life saved you, many people will settle for their situation instead of trying to improve their lot. I fell off the mountain when I was 70, I tumbled like a rag doll, 2 gashes to the head, 3 gashes to my arm, 3 gashes to my lefty leg and to top it off, I fractured my breastbone right through the top quarter. I had half an hour to go to get to the road end, it took me 1 hour and 30 minuets. But that wasn't the end of it, my right leg went down a small hole on the track and I twisted my knee. after a couple of days in hospital I went home and within 4 weeks I was back on the track (albeit, very slowly) that was 6 years ago and I'm still out there Tramping (hiking) the mountains. @K9OutdoorsSearchTeam
@K9OutdoorsSearchTeam 18 күн бұрын
@@vvs3796 A very good question because PLB’s and Garmin’s can be a minefield for potential buyers. I used an ACR 406 PLB for years, it has good reviews and I never had issues at all. However it’s a simple press and await rescue, there is no messaging, battery lasts 5 years, and you have to register. I believe there is now a better model, ACR 416. I had a Garmin Inreach Mini 2, loved it but found the screen a little too small for my eyes hence I went for the Garmin 66i. I have had no issues except recently when Garmin changed their plan system and I was out on this latest search so couldn’t connect, but Garmin have never changed their plans in years, just my bad luck. Garmin plans are now much better with their essential plan including 50 messages, 10 voice or photo messages, and their normal preset messages. Cost is £14.99 a month after you pay for the initial activation fee of £39. I’m out for 6-7 at a time so I need weather updates, I have been caught out in unpredictable bad weather too many times. I would say if your an occasional hiker /wild camper then go the PLB route, but if your out throughput the year then go the Garmin Inreach mini 2 route. The question is, how much is your life worth? £14.99 a month seems a fair cost for safety. So many ‘experienced’ hikers, Munro trekkers, mountaineers, and on a couple of occasions even mountain rescue personal have lost their lives on the mountains in Scotland, I add not on high slopes but when descending lower areas. Hope that helps. Bill

How did you find out about the information of how Rodrigo Falcon was found? I commented on one of your previous videos about him and had been following his case closely but I lacked the means to get out and search unfortunately. Also about Neil, was there not information on him getting lost in Skye and later found miles away just 5 months prior to the trip he was last seen on? If this is the case then I think it is very plausible that he has wandered from his tent and most likely taken an easy route (due to no trekking poles) to another Glen or at least a decent distance away from where his tent was pitched. But I do agree that he could also be very close and just hasn't been spotted just like what happened to Rodrigo which I guess is what makes locating missing people so difficult sometimes. All the best on your search, your effort is much appreciated.

@@Crisdean-nl9yc Thank you for your kind comments regarding the searching. I know someone that knows friends of Rodrigo and the info was passed on, it’s nothing secret, most people in Aviemore would know the details by now. Very sad but strange how he walked out and basically wandered off into a snow covered field with no coat on at 3am in freezing temperatures. Yes Neil did get lost for 5 hours in Skye the previous year before he went missing at Loch Dochard. He had a long history of getting lost and wandering off going back to when his children were young. I feel he wandered but who knows he could be only feet away from his campsite. Now I have a drone I think that will help no end BUT the area is so large.

Guess shows the the difference in what the person was wearing, wearing some brighter clothing, will make you a lot easier to find than if wearing dark clothing
