I love this song. I know it’s on a single, but I wish it was on a CD or at least I can’t find it on a CD.

Those dolts watching him on their PHONES while recording him live is just daffy. If I paid for my date's ticket and they spent the concert with their faces in a phone... I would make a frisbee out of the thing. Imbeciles. JOEL is the best ever.

So much better than the auto-tuned pitched video version. Billy Joel's natural voice is soulful. I much prefer the natural unaltered voice.

@@thelevisullivanYep. True story. And they wrote it specifically with Billy Joel in mind to record it. Freddie Wexler, one of the writers of the song, and the guy who convinced him to record it, was a big fan of Billy's and wanted to write something that sounded like it was classic. It was his dream to write it and have Billy record it. Man, talk about manifestation and having a vision! Persistence and believing in the dream at its finest. It's a very inspiring story.

I love to hear how Billy and the band keep adding and updating the arrangement, the outro is a nice addition.... but I still don't get why he consistently misses the first note, and has trouble tuning the first line or two. He's still taking it down a half, which is fine (a lot of artists tune down on stage) but at least it's not as low as it was at the Grammy's ! Great tune tho...
@armyjoe_9842
@armyjoe_9842 5 ай бұрын
maybe take into account he’s 75 and still better then 90% of any other musicians out there. It’s easy to criticize from home, but get o stage with all the ambient sounds and waiting for others to hit their marks, not easy to do. He sounds amazing.
@svengilson
@svengilson 5 ай бұрын
@@armyjoe_9842 That's the point I'm making. He can sing a whole show, mostly in the original keys, with very few changes, perfectly in tune, but the first few notes of this song I have yet to hear properly on pitch. Billy can hear everything on stage with his self-adjustable dual monitor setup that he's been using for years, and he has complete control over this song becuase it's a piano intro. It concerns me more than anything else. If he can tune 99% of the time, why is he consistently off on this one song?

@@armyjoe_9842 absolutely a great song, and I love the way it sounds more “Billy” as they keep adding to the arrangement. I guess I’m just cursed with a really good ear (I’m a musician) and it’s noticeable to me. Once he gets into the second phrase, it’s amazing
@armyjoe_9842
@armyjoe_9842 5 ай бұрын
I'm so glad my ear is just dull and regular. But I understand how when you have more of a professional sound/interest then it's difficult to ignore those small things. Have you tried to reproduce the intro to see if it's possibly the arrangement? I'd be interested to hear what you find out. Keep me posted

There’s a young couple in the upper left corner swaying together. If you see this message, learn from this piece. Appreciate each other and respect each other. Love is fleeting, unless it’s true. I wish you the best. Thank you Billy.
