Do you ever apply finish to the planed surface, or do you like to always sand?
@dandelie2067
@dandelie2067 Күн бұрын
You can finish your planed surface. I sometimes do. I always like to finish with a fine grit sand paper. Because if your is out of ladderal adjustment, it can leave very fine tailing marks. It is hard to see them.

Wow. Super easy! I fussed and fussed and fussed with the five cut method and never really got it just where I wanted it, but on the first try with your technique, I nailed it! When I used my marking knife to make the second measurement, it was dead on, and I almost fell over. My cuts are super square now thank you so much for taking the time and providing this wonderful video. I really appreciate it. Time is a very valuable thing and you gave a lot of yours in making this video. VIVA la EPIC WOODWORKING!

Thank you, I’m so glad it worked well for you. There is something oddly satisfying and reassuring about trusting your crosscut sled for a dead square cut. And even though I was a math major in college I prefer a more direct approach. Thanks for your kind words, I’m happy to do it. You might be interested in our little woodworking community too, worth checking it out sometime. 👍😎

With regards discoloration, i used blue tissue with softener and eventually the burr absorbed all the blue while wet from the softener.. so always use white tissue.

Yes, I have one in mind but not sure if I can work it in very soon…and if he’d be up for it at this stage of his career. I hope so. It’s in my portfolio on my webpage, a contemporary easy chair he did an amazing job on for me about 10 - 15 yrs ago.

Fantastic jigs! I can’t help but ask if anyone here knows… how do you prevent tear out on end grain when using the shooting board? No preventive measure is used here. There’s nothing backing up the cut.
@EpicWoodworking
@EpicWoodworking 5 күн бұрын
Actually, once you try it, you’ll see there is in fact something backing up the cut, the fence the workpiece is bearing against. With a proper shooting board, as I tried to demonstrate here, you will not have any tear out at the end of the cut. Glad you enjoyed it! 👍😎

Whole heartdly agree with everyone who said this has to be one of the best and most detailed end grain cutting board video on KZbin. I have watched cojntless videos over th past 6-9 months already and just finished up a batch of 6 boards for gifting this xmas. But sadly only today your videos came up on my feed. Examples of details i have not found on any other video: placing each strip one by one on the gle clamps, hand planing to avoid sanding time, sparse use kf glue, focus on lowering material loss...

The thing is you can fo directly to finish after planning or scrapping, but it requires time, planning and skill. Anyone can sand at any point to 320 and call it a day (including myself)

Any recommendations on a good hobbyist bandsaw for a shop with limited space?
@EpicWoodworking

No particular brand, but for value the imports are good (nearly all are imports these days)…like Jet or Rikon. You can do a lot with a smaller 14” saw, so I would look at those. Also a good idea to look at the used market, especially if lightly used, and 60% of new cost is a good deal. Hope that helps 👍
