@@homeguestunton In other countries, I have seen that coated high pressure sodium lamps are more common especially European countries. In those countries, coated high pressure sodium lamps seem to be available in 50W, 70W, 100W, 150W, 250W, 400W, and even 1000W. Additionally, I have seen that Japan seems to have a relatively even balance of coated and clear high pressure sodium lamps that typically include retrofit lamps for mercury vapor ballasts ranging from 75W to replace 80W mercury vapor lamps, 180W to replace 200W mercury vapor lamps, 220W to replace 250W mercury vapor lamps, 270W to replace 300W mercury vapor lamps, 360W to replace 400W mercury vapor lamps, 660W to replace 700W mercury vapor lamps, and 940W to replace 1000W mercury vapor lamps, plus self igniting 70W and 110W lamps that require dedicated ballasts. @@homeguestunton Certainly love the strangeness of running these coated metal halide lamps in an outdoor residential security light fixture specifically intended for mercury vapor lamps. Turns out to be a nice way to improve CRI and lumen output. Had to use a European low voltage Philips SI51 ignitor to assist with reliable lamp ignition. I just love how the mercury vapor yardblaster security light looks with having the 3200K coated probe start metal halide lamp installed with its warm glow. I also love the strangeness of running these probe start metal halide lamps on low power factor HX autotransformer ballasts as well since these lamps are generally intended for use on CWA ballasts since most ballasts that I have seen that were specifically designed for probe start metal halide lamps tend to be CWA ballasts instead of HX autotransformer ballasts.

@@rarelampcollector I am also thinking about possibly trying to get that 6 foot VHO fluorescent tube to run on a 150W M102 pulse start metal halide HX autotransformer ballast sometime using preheat circuitry. I think these CWA mercury vapor ballasts may have a good advantage for possibly running 215W 8 foot VHO and powergroove tubes using preheat circuitry because I think the series capacitor from the CWA ballasts might provide the extra voltage to help keep the 215W tubes running while HX autotransformer 175W H39 mercury vapor ballasts would have a harder time running the 215W tubes due to the relatively high arc voltage drop.

Question: Is the current between M102 and M137/52 the same? Are they interchangeable?

@worldwidehidcollectorusa3519 Ай бұрын
@@kenytha5 As far as I know, the 175W M137/M152 pulse start metal halide lamps run at roughly 130V and 1.5A much like 175W M57 probe start metal halide lamps and 175W H39 mercury vapor lamps do, but 150W M102 pulse start metal halide lamps along with the uncommon 150W S56 high pressure sodium lamps run at roughly 100V and 1.8A. In that case, you can use a 175W M137/M152 pulse start metal halide lamp on a 175W H39 mercury vapor ballast if you use a European superimposed ignitor and hook it up to the ballast. If you search for “tanning bed ignitor” on eBay, you should be able to find European superimposed ignitors pretty easily. Although the 150W M102 pulse start metal halide lamps and 175W M137/M152 pulse start metal halide lamps have similar electrical characteristics, they are not exactly interchangeable with each other, but you should be able to safely run a 175W M137/M152 pulse start metal halide lamp just fine on a 150W M102 pulse start metal halide HX autotransformer ballast since the higher arc voltage drop of the 175W lamp would lower its operating current on the 150W M102 pulse start metal halide HX autotransformer ballast close to its ideal specifications, but not really the other way around from what I can tell.

The Toshiba FE5P electronic starter, don't wait enough time to let the electrodes reaching enough high temperature and start the lamp very fast. This isn't good for the lamp. Even if your circular fluorescent lamp showing thermionic discharges at the end from the moment of the start of the preheating, if it does so when the electrodes aren't heated enough, this may short the lamp life.
