Personally I enjoy the theory that the Biolizard was also on some level upset with Maria’s death as well. We can see in a photo she seemed to spend time with the lizard, at least before the experiments started. So it’s likely she had a positive bond with it. It makes another neat parellel with shadow, as both of them want revenge. But unlike Shadow the Biolizard is to animal like and aggressive to be truly reasoned with sadly. It probably has some programming, but I also think it is lashing out in anger/sadness. It could also explain how it was even so determined as to fuse itself with the cannon.
