Read the whole poem by Wittier, "The Brewing of Soma." The light blasts away the darkness from verse 12. It sends you to your knees in repentance.

Excellent singing and conducting. Thanks for sharing. I noticed you used all naturals in the last measure (instead of E-flat in the tenor and B-flat in the alto), completely changing the sound from the original. Have to say, I like the change, and I was contemplating what to do with that ending myself (I'm conducting it this coming season) -- the original seems out of character, much too dark...

I loved this when I was a Chorister (treble), in the 1980's - I didn't hear it for 25 years - Then I heard it a child's (boys) funeral, and It ....It breaks me every-time - "Across the air the silver sheepbells rang. "The lambs are coming home," sweet Mary sang. "Your star of gold, your star of gold is shining in the sky. So sleep, my little King, go lullaby."

I love singing anything by Parry - wonderful composer. He wrote it in England not too long after my grandfather was born. I have sung it for for 50 years so far. Here's to 50 more..... You cannot beat the old traditional Victorian hymns.
