The Harvard Lampoon put out a satire of the LotRs called Bored of the Rings. They called their Bilbo character Dildo. The Frodo is named Frito and Gollum is called Goddamn. So you are not alone in the Dildo name.

Fun bit of trivia for you; the ugly-ass Orc commander, Gothmog, was meant to be a visual dig at Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood CEO who was found posthumously guilty of hundreds of charges of rape, sexual assault and misconduct. That wasn't common knowledge at the time, but apparently Weinstein was still known in the movie-making circles as a detestable individual. When Peter Jackson was looking for a company to fund and run the filming of LotR, Weinstein offered his company's services on the condition that Jackson cut down this magnificent trilogy into a single 2 hour movie. Jackson obviously turned him down seeing it as a bastardisation of his vision, which New Line Cinema brought to life.

"Sone of you insinuated that Freud would have loved me because of some of the Freudians' lips that I had" is genuinely how I heard it. I...damn it.

The thing making you cry all the time is the score, I think. Howard Shore cooked ridiculously hard with these films

Fell Beasts; Tolkien said they were 'pterodactylic,' aka like a Pterodactyl. Jackson depicted them like Wyvern, beasts with arms in the wings like a bat. Dragons have arms separate from their wings.

When I heard "That's what she said" to the raw and wriggling line, I couldn't help but smile and chuckle, the proud look you had when you made that joke was amazing 😂 Been loving your humor throughout these LotR movie reactions, don't let anyone ever tell ya you aren't funny ❤

Andy Serkis does such a good job with Gollum. The inner conflict between his two sides, the way he's a mirror to Frodo (which will become even more apparent in the next film), it's all really well portrayed.

Gandalf can't die. He is a Maia, an immortal spirit, like an angel. In this world, middle-earth, he has the shape of an old man. The balrog is also a Maia, or something similair, but in this world he has the shape of a fierce demon made of fire. Their fight took place deep underground, but also at the top of a mountain. That doesn't make sence, and it is not supposed to. Some have interpreted this as them being transported to a different dimension, where their physical difference doesnt matter. They are equal in power, but in a non-physical way. This is a place where time doesn't go at the same rate even. In Gandalf's timeframe he fought the balrog for a very long time. Maybe a thousand years, but when he was returned, it only seemed like he was gone for a week or so. Pretty cool concept if you ask me.

35:54 huh, never considered that parallel between Eowyn and Grima Wormtongue. at the start of the movie she's on the receiving end of a one-way love interest from Grima, but now she's the one in love with someone who doesn't love her in return. idk if that's meaningful in any way, but it's interesting

i dont think i read any of those books on that bookshelf behind you, but just going by the titles i´d say half of them are at least in some way inspired by tolkien not saying it to call you out or anything (i´ve played almost every arpg besides diablo 2) but thats how influential lotr is

It's weird that only some channels have such a hard time with copyright on these. Other channels don't have to make the voices sound weird, or even put a watermark on them. While others have all this problem. In the book Grima cuts Saruman's throat on the border of the Shire almost at the end of the book because Saruman fled Orthanc and took over management of The Shire. After the four and a militia they rounded up, deposed Saruman who called himself Sharky. Grima tried to run after killing Saruman but some very angry Hobbits shot him full of arrows before Frodo could stop them. Grima dying makes a lot more sense than Legolas literally shooting him for absolutely no reason.

In theory, Saruman could be reincarnated, but that's extremely unlikely. Basically, Gandalf and Saruman (also Sauron and the Balrog(s) are, but thats a longer explanation) are greater beings called Maiar, who are essentially angels given corporeal bodies with massive limiters to their powers so they dont destroy everything. So, the wizards are a bunch of these angels that were sent to middle earth by the supreme god, Eru Ilúvatar to contend with the corruption of Sauron, particularly mandated to help the people of middle earth bolster their own strength to repel Sauron. Over time, most of the wizards strayed from their original mandate- save Gandalf, so Eru chose to reincarnate Gandalf upon his death. Saruman however, failed in his mission and fell to corruption, Eru would have no reason to reincarnate Saruman prior to the end of time.
