That impromptu was so impactful. It was just what I, (and many other NCFCAers I'm sure) needed at that moment. Thank you for a fabulous speech Jordan.

As a coach of a fledgling team and parent of a new debater, I heard about Patrick McDonald after searching for a debate podcast and coming across one where someone was interviewed and mentioned Patrick. In my continued quest for debate info, I stumbled upon the ethos debate blog. I was pleased to see that Patrick McDonald, who I had just learned about, was affiliated with this debate resource blog that I had just discovered, and even more pleased to see that it appeared that he offers coaching services. As an attorney with a love of debate but with no background in the mechanics of the extracurricular debate activity (yet currently the coach of a brand new underfunded team), I had hoped that I could pay Patrick for regular coaching sessions with my son. I was pleased initially to also hear that he considers himself a libertarian, since my son also identifies as such. But my pleasure quickly turned to severe disappointment as I watched this segment and heard him state that abortion is so immoral that it stands outside of his libertarian belief system as something that the government should regulate! Of course, we are seeing how that is playing itself out in the national stage as women are forced to carry babies who will never survive to full term even while risking the mother's health and future fertility. I hope Patrick is aware of the recent data showing that 64,565 pregnancies have been caused by rape in the 14 states where abortion is banned. And does Patrick revert to his hands-off governmental approach when it comes to funding services for poor mothers and children, as most of the abortion-bans state do? I.e., refusing to provide state child tax credits, no state-funded childcare, less spending on child education, no support for unwed mothers, no mandatory paternal care, advocating against free lunch programs at schools, and on and on. On a variety of measures, the states that plan to force children to be born also do less to help them thrive once they are. See, e.g., itep.org/abortion-restricting-states-funding-for-children-child-tax-credit-eitc/ Patrick seems like a thoughtful, intelligent person, and I can only assume that he has been overly influenced by Christian nationalists who want to impose their personal religious beliefs on everyone in the country. This is a shame and insults me to my core that this young man purports to be so thoughtful about "issues" and libertarian about values yet has no problem sacrificing women's healthcare - mental and physical health risks - to mandate his personal religious beliefs in a country that was founded upon the tenets of religious freedom. There is so much more I would say, but I'm off to continue to look for a debate coach I can pay for debate skills who won't inject his personal, religious, harmful views into his curricullum.

This speech was so passionate. It was on a subject that must shake our core so rigidly that we do something about it. May God change our lazy hearts. May God end abortion. The Holy Spirit holds the power. If you are afraid ask for help.
