How do you go about figuring out what kind of land you can dig on? Is this public land off a hiking trail, is it private land you got permission to dig in? If it's public land, did you need to get a permit beforehand?

I’m a newbie. How do you generally identify pegmatite?
@rockgoblinadventures5520
@rockgoblinadventures5520 Жыл бұрын
So It's basically like a granite that has larger minerals. So a granite has stuff like quartz, feldspar, micas and hornblendes but the size of each individual mineral is fairly small approximately less then 1cm. A pegmatite would have the same minerals but would be over 1cm and can get pretty large and measure in the meters scale. The pegmatites usually cooled slow enough that the minerals had time to grow larger but that's not always the case.
@masonsmyth147
@masonsmyth147 Жыл бұрын
@@rockgoblinadventures5520 okay that makes sense. I feel like I can identify granite fairly easily. so just keep looking for rocks with bigger deposits of quartz, mica and feldspar. Thanks! Another random q. Do you think you’d be more likely to find pegmatite in foothills, or in the actual mountains?
@rockgoblinadventures5520
@rockgoblinadventures5520 Жыл бұрын
@Mason Smyth I can't say if one would be better than the other. Pegmatites usually run as dikes and intrusions, though, if that helps you at all. If you have an area you are curious about it's always good to check out some geology maps and see what rock is there and if anyone has marked out any Intrusives or anything else. Mindat.org is a good resource as well as the USGS.

@@rockgoblinadventures5520 nice! What state you mining in? I just got some land and has a quarry on it. I have a gut feeling it has a variety of minerals gems etc on it. Has a small mountain, 20 acre pond fed by 5 springs etc. Lots of visible different types of granite and stone.

@@rockgoblinadventures5520 I’m going to hire a geologist to check. It’s 200 acres but on 800 acres. Granite blue granite lighter color rock. So far it has a mountain of blue granite. But is being used as a rock crushing pit last 3 years. The terrain varies sandy pebbles to giant boulders. Then a mountain of granite to that pond. Which is insanely clear. There’s some weird rocks all over the pond. I haven’t been out on it yet. Seems to be full of small boulders and square Granite chunk’s. Really unique place.

Really good video quality, what are you using? At about 4 mins you are completely under the overburden and you have a tailings pile on your escape side... If that overburden fails, you wont get out of that alive. Try and clear the downhill side of tailings so you arent caught between a slough and a hard place, or at least you have a chance of scooting out. You would be very surprised how much a foot or two of over burden weighs when it comes down on you.

lol yeah it was a bit unsafe but we did also have the other side of the hole open as well where my buddy was digging. we are usually aware of the dangers and try to watch ourselves. We wont be going deeper unless we collapse the tunnel in first to get rid of the top load. The camera I am using is a GoPro hero 8. it has great quality but trying to show anything up close is difficult. you basically have to hold anything back like a foot from the camera or it gets blurry.

I worked for the government of Saskatchewan, in geochemical research. We found one of the richest uranium mines (Cliff Lake). To try and find the source in muskeg you do survey of the area.
