I recently bought one from a store, called dollar city in east haven and I wanted to receive WZRC from New York (1480 AM) plus I feel like the dial on the radio is stiff too.

I 'borrowed' an XHDATA 18650 3000 mah from another radio, and it works fine in the Qodosen DX-286. I ordered a pair from XHDATA for the DX-286 so I'll always have a backup. Strange that the designer of the DX-286 didn't recommend the XHDATA cell in his communication with Jay Allen. Be VERY careful about charging the cell in the DX-286, as a fast charger will damage the radio. I have an Opus BT-C3400 charger which will work well. Great video.

I got mine today. First thing i noticed is that it receives BBC in the LW band very well. I mean, as well as my Sony icf-sw11 and it's the ONLY chinese radio I own that has good performance on the long waves, and i own dozens of them. I'm eagerly waiting for the evening, to be able to test it on the MW/SW bands. FM is totally amazing with 60 found channels, 20 more than most of my other radios.
@tvradio197213 сағат бұрын
Thank you for the comments. I am glad to hear that it does well on LW. Unfortunately, the only LW transmissions I get in the United States are non-directional beacons and NAVTEX. And those were on received on my Tecsun PL-660. Have a good night.

This is not a weather receiver as some Chinese sellers advertise it, the item does not cover any weather band. However it can serve well as an emergency radio, because it's small, light, performs well (for the price or for the size), and operates with (two) AA batteries. Before purchasing the Baijiali KK-9 radio, I read a lot of reviews about this cheap, Chinese receiver, and every opinion from 5-15 years ago spoke about this device as about a disappointing product. I saw even KZbin video, which demonstrated that this item receives something on FM and AM, but nothing on all the SW bands. At that time it was a waste of money to buy it. So why did I decide to buy a so bad product? Because I got it for 1 (one!) dollar (with free shipping - this purchase being my first order from the seller), and I was curious enough to pay almost nothing for this item. I even planed to give it to somebody else as a free gift after testing :-) When the radio arrived I was shocked however how much cheap Chinese radios improved. This is a good receiver in term of sensitivity, not bad at all in term of selectivity, and quite satisfying in term of how much from the SW band covers. It's an absolute surprise, and I don't plan to give it away anymore. So do I like it? Well, the sound is so-so. It's understandable very well, but it's not pleasant. It has a tiny sound (without high or low tone), that irritates my ear on SW, and a bit less on FM or MW. I put two thicker piece of paper to cover the loudspeaker. This way the sound is not so annoying, but also weaker, suitable for personal use only. Otherwise it's a joy to use, I would buy it again for the price. Maybe it will be needed, because it has a cheap made feeling. The plastic is so weak that I can press the cover if I want. The battery compartment cover almost falls out, I had to use adhesive tape to strengthen it. It's also very light, it seems that the radio is "empty". Beside the so-so sound quality it's only drawback I found until now is the AGC performance. It works - as if it were a DSP radio - without grades. The selectivity is also similar to a cheap DSP radio, because close stations broke in and disappear depending on how well the weaker station is received. Tuning is not stable in these cases. For 1 dollar there is no reason to complain. The usual price of the item is around 10 dollars (including shipping). Does this little radio worth 10 times more than in my case? With more pleasant sound it would be worth it.

I've had this radio for several months now and one of the main features on FM that I haven't seen mentioned online is the ability of this radio not to drop multiple dbs reception of weaker stations when in multiple FM stations in urban setting running anywhere from 2-10kWs, the other DSPs such as the Xhdata d-808 are noticeably affected in very strong FM reception areas, the Qodosen retains the integrigyt of the weaker, recovered singals where the other DSPs do not - its the only radio in my collection that has this feature and its an important one. The FM AutoBW function is also excellent and just one example I have a "blowtorch" FM transmitter nearby on 102.6 running around 2 kilowatts at least, when auto tuning this Qodosen stopped on 102.5 as it heard a weak station a couple of hundred miles away, such is the power of this little radio... dont be fooled by its size, its a huge performer on MW and LW also using the telescopic with the amp activated. I was amazed at how many UK stations it could hear in Pisa including Caroline on 648 and even BBC Radio Somerset on 1566, that is amazing to say the least. The display is spot on as was mentioned here. I'm looking forward to what people make of the new DX-286 but for now the SR-286 is my go-to travel radio having taken over from the D-808
@tvradio19725 күн бұрын
Thank you for the feedback. Both the DX-286 and the TEF6686 can pick up FM stations that my other radios can't pick up. I agree with you on MW. It performs well, and it's even better when I attach a loop antenna and 3.5mm mono cable to the antenna jack.

HI Michael, I just got my Qodosen DX-286 two days ago, Can I use my computer USB port for charging DX-286 or my Samsung tablet wall charger and how long does it take to charge the DX-286. Thank you for posting this and all your videos... 📻

I never used my computer to charge the DX-286, so I couldn't tell you if you could. You can use a wall charger as long as it is not a fast charger. Makes sure that the charger is no more than 5 Volts. I don't know how long it takes to charge the radio, but micro USB are not known to charge at fast rates.

Thanks for the Shout Out TVRadio1972! Those XHDATA 3000's are the easiest to get. I just retested all of my protected Orbtronic Button Tops, and the 3600s I have were the only ones that wouldn't make contact because of a shallow button. The battery door goes on with no issues. The same with Protected Button Tops from Tecsun Radios, such as the PL-990/H501X, they fit and work fine. The unprotected Samsung 3500s I have from 18650batterystore are a great fit as well. Some Protected button tops have a thicker bar that runs along side of the battery causing the battery door not to close properly. Glad you made this video :)

This was my first shortwave radio! I think it's great overall. Recently I've developed a fondness for analog radios, but I often still grab the Eton for SSB and/or to verify an exact frequency with it's digital display.
