If you’re white. You will deal with racism and violence. Just stick to yourself and protect yourself from hate crimes.

I have to be honest-I'm currently in Hawaii, and it feels like this place isn't quite suited for those who aren’t accustomed to the sun year-round. Boston is where you belong, so maybe stay there. There’s an air of entitlement that some visitors bring, acting as if they own the place and lacking respect for the local culture. I’ve found that Black visitors are welcomed warmly here; the locals call me "brother," a term of genuine connection that’s rarely extended to others. And if it is, it often feels insincere. Your ideal vacation here often seems to be a stark reminder of historical struggles rather than a genuine escape. Personally, I came to Hawaii seeking healing, but instead, it feels like the island is in need of its own healing-something that won’t come from those who don’t truly understand or respect it. Despite the polite façades, there’s a contradiction in how some tourists approach the culture, trying to fit in without truly grasping its essence. It’s ironic to see people who lack a deep cultural heritage themselves attempting to navigate and impose upon someone else’s. This is coming from a Black man: Hawaii is not just another part of the U.S. It’s a place with its own spirit and history, deserving of true respect and understanding.

Very wise words! We love it there and would love to retire there. The stolen land thing is a big deal for us. We love it there, but we do not want to take away from the culture.

You need to sink in the ocean. Don't come to mainland we will give you the same welcome you give us. Hawaii sucks. We need to give Hawaii to China to pay off the debt. Then when you sink maybe you can go to China.

There were ppl on the Hawaiian islands b4 those who claim it belonged to them. The islands are the uppermost part of a land mass named Mu which was once suddenly inundated with high water overnight thousands of yrs ago. There are ppl who are incarnated at this time who have memories of their lives in Mu who's hearts yearn to return home there.

It's hard to make it in Philadelphia, PA. I've found cheaper homes in Hawaii than I found in Philly. People move from all over, from one place to another. Hawaii is no different. You have to respect people wherever you go. Philly isn't for some, Brooklyn isn't for some, the U.S. Virgin Islands isn't for some...and at the same time many places ARE for many people. At the end of the day, the whole world is surrounded by an ocean. You have to force yourself to make it in Hawaii, if that's what you want to do.

I am a 64 year old with a cat named Shiro. I am praying about moving to Hawaii. I live poor in Hershey, PA and I have a section 8 voucher and can live in Hawaii. I have watched films about the Kingdom and I have much respect and compassion about what I watched. I love the outdoors and would enjoy the land. I would definitely respect the locals. I am no threat to anyone or their land. I have a beautiful soul and live in peace. I can go barefoot and wear shoes inside too. My niece was married there, my family would visit me. I have a handicap and would be close to home most of the time. I would need the bus to get around. Just realize I never had anything to do with negative actions of the people of the Kingdom. I would just like to embrace and enjoy paradise. God BLess and maybe one day I will be there.

I recently visited Maui and my fiancé and I just fell so madly in love with it. Beyond the amazing beauty and fresh food which is enough in itself, we felt such a sense of community and love. Both of us were heartbroken to have to leave. Now we are exploring visiting the big island as it’s more feasible to live there. When we were flying out we ran into a couple who had lived in Maui for a decade plus who said the island either pulls you in and accepts you as part of it or it will spit you back out to tell you it’s not for you. I can’t speak from experience to agree with that but it seems to be the case. I don’t know for sure that it will be for us but I do know the changes I felt inside when I visited and how my heart broke when I had to leave. As far as the locals go, once again I can’t speak for anywhere aside from Maui, but I feel they are similar to the island in that they feel your energy and will either take you in or reject you. Also respect and kindness go a long way….but that should also be the standard for how you everyone which doesn’t seem to be the case for a lot of people.

These "don't move to Hawaii" videos always focus on people that move out of Hawaii as if that was a failure. People move... And by their nature, people that move anywhere are people that are more prone to moving. Living in Hawaii for 3 to 10 years may just be part of their adventurous path through life. I wouldn't call it a failure. The #1 reason to not move to Hawaii depends on your ability to make money. If you're poor, then you will struggle even harder. If you're middle class and doing ok then prepare to be "house poor". If you're well off.... Then you can do whatever you want and everything is going to be just fine.

Stolen like the hair style u have in your head 🙄 1. Hawaii has very high meth use. The highest in the country 2. The homeless rate is staggering 3. It’s expensive for no reason 4. Hawaiians tend to treat Asians horribly when ethnically Chinese and Whites at the top of making the most money, with Filipinos and Native Hawaiians nearer the bottom.

If the ones that don't want any other race in Hawaii, shut down the airports "there", people live n learn off their own decisions. Anyone moving to another state other than the one they grew up on is gonna be different.

Honestly, It always seems like it's ok for Europeans to be proud and want to preserve their culture. Like how they are worried now about the Middle eastern muslims occupying much of europe and changing the culture. I totally believe that's ok for Europeans to worry about...who wants to go extinct? I love Europe for it's many cultures and would hate to see that change. Norway isn't like France, Switzerland isn't like Greece. Poland isn't like Italy. Every place retains its own culture while sharing a place within the continent of Europe. . But let a Hawaiian talk the same way, and white people resent them for it. Not protecting themselves is the reason there's only about 5,000 pure Hawaiians left in the world. Put yourself in their shoes and show some compassion.
