Perhaps the greatest PIF campaign of them all. It'd be hard to think of one with as much of a legacy as this one does. Now, to do something special, here are my Top 10 Scariest of this campaign 10: Classmates It's mostly sad, but the children's voices drowning out the teacher's speech, almost like zoning out, gives it a haunting vibe regardless. 9: Casualty The pain behind this one is quite vivid. That's one way to send a message, and it's a good example of the general idea of realism this campaign uses. 8: A Fireman's Tale While the idea behind the story is upsetting, the freakout is vivid and adds to the feeling. 7: Police Station Making you, the viewer, the killer is a......unique take on this, let me just say. While I steer clear of alcohol to begin with, it's still an unsettling reminder of how the viewer may very well end up in this situation if they make the wrong choices. 6: Christmas Pudding The way the cheerful noise shifts tone like that after the twist feels downright demonic. It's odd that people don't talk about this one more. 5: One More, Dave The concept is incredibly horrific. It's mostly sad, but the idea that he will be trapped in his body for the rest of his life gives it a place here anyway. 4: Eyes The dilated eye is disturbing to look it. Not to mention that you're just staring at a corpse the whole time....... 3: Mark While this would always be creepy thanks to the unsettlingly unreal animation of the face, the sheer oddness of this against the normally grounded campaign gives it a whole new feeling of terror. 2: Kathy Can't Sleep While by most circumstances this would be more sad than anything, the mother's performance just feels too real. Very frightening to listen to thanks to how vivid it is. This is like A Fireman's Tale taken to the extreme. 1: In the Summertime I don't even know what it is, but I shiver throughout the entire runtime of this PIF. Even before the twist is revealed, simply because I know what will happen.

UK has been making great PIFs since the '60s. Not saying there's no great campaigns in recent years, but few from recent decades can match the level of the past.

Visual description & chapters 00:00 - Classmates The first ad in the series, aired in 1987, depicts a classroom of children, who have lost a classmate as a result of a drink-driving crash. The camera rolls to the back of the classroom, with the deceased child's best friend and the empty chair ending the single, bleak shot of the room. 00:41 - A Fireman's Tale A fireman - played by Ken Stott - recalls a story of an accident scene he attended to with his colleagues. He loses his temper whilst he tells the audience that a young woman had been killed by a lad drinking while driving, and ends the PIF with a blunt opinion: "I don't know how he'll live with himself." 01:42 - Victim A paralysed man is sitting in a wheelchair at a pier, and he talks about an accident which caused him to lose the ability to move. The man says his mates reckon he's lucky to be alive after being hit by a drink-driver, but I'm not entirely sure he agrees with the statement. 02:28 - Mother This 1988 ad depicts a mother, whose daughter, Jenny, has been injured in a drink-driving crash. The mother refuses to give up hope and wishes that Jenny could leave hospital one day, even though she's been told her daughter most likely will not. 03:14 - Real Lives This ad, from 1989, follows a family whose son died as a result of drink driving. The narrator reads out a newspaper article about the death, whereas the visuals show the grieving family. Narrated by John Nettles. 03:55 - Casualty Alternatively titled "Recovery", this harrowing ad shows a man who's in rehabilitation after being left in a wheelchair by a crash. The man is clearly agonised and can't walk more than a few centimetres, and in the end says he can't go any further. 04:37 - Kathy Can't Sleep Moving on to the 1990s, this piece, directed by Tony Kaye, is probably one of the most well-known in the series. Featuring a single shot of a deeply saddened child, we hear the monologue of a woman whose spouse has killed a little girl while drink driving. 05:18 - Police Station A 1991 advert from a drink-driver's point of view. After brief scenes of an accident scene, we can see a first-person view of a person being interrogated by the police at a police station after a drink-driving accident that had killed a girl. At the end, a police officer offers the culprit a cup of tea even though he clearly despises the person for what they did. 06:00 - In the Summertime Complete with a soundtrack by Mungo Jerry, this 1992 advert focuses on how people tend to drink-drive during the summer holidays when they don't even realise how much they've been drinking. After the cheery song distorts to an accident scene, we can see a slightly different tagline "In the summertime drinking and driving wrecks even more lives." 06:40 - Eyes A young girl, played by Denise van Outen, is very likely dead after a drink-driving crash: the advert shows the paramedics trying to resuscitate her to no avail, while we hear a police officer discussing the accident with the drink-driver himself, who doesn't quite realise how dire the situation is. 07:21 - Christmas Pudding A Christmas advert from 1993 which shows a woman finding out her spouse has been killed in a drink-driving crash right when the family is about to have Christmas pudding - which turns into a shot of a burning car. The endline is a special "Drinking and Driving wrecks Christmas". 07:53 - Mark In this 1994 ad a ghostly man talks about his best friend Mark, dubbing him a "great bloke", but reveals how he drink, drove and killed a young couple. Probably not as great a bloke as he says... 08:25 - Mates From 1995, this ad shows us the perspective of a man who's been critically injured in a crash. His mate, ostensibly the culprit behind the accident, keeps trying to prove his innocence, and in the end presents a plea: "We're still mates, aren't we?" 08:56 - One More, Dave A woman is shown liquidising dinner in the kitchen. We hear the sounds of young men at a pub, where the others encourage and peer pressure one of them into drinking more, saying "Come on Dave, just one more". The woman then feeds the liquidised dinner to his paralysed son, encouraging her son to eat: "Come on Dave, just one more". 09:27 - Mirror, Mirror This 1996 advert marks the end of a series. A girl is putting on makeup before a mirror, and talks about a road accident she's been involved in. The driver was her boyfriend, whom she wants to leave, but tells the audience that she doesn't think that other men could want him - because she's been scarred by the accident. This ad is often regarded as part of the series, despite it featuring a different endline: "Enjoy a drink. Leave the car at home."
