Oh Peter, your video spoke to me very loud. I too feel shakey and uncertain to the point that spending money on necessities makes me feel vulnerable. I have never been homeless but had a very, very humble upbringing where money was about just enough for us to eat. Moving forward into my adulthood, I always wanted to become financial independent and not having to count the pennies to live. That I achieved when I hit 50 and moved to live by the sea in 2019 with my husband. After a year my husband became ill and passed away in 2022, I now had to reorganise the finances and although I can still be Financially independent, the uncertainty and fear of not having enough is disturbing my peace of mind. I at times feel vulnerable to the circumstances of life and it's scary. I am literally scared of spending money in case there isn't enough in the future. So, factually I know there's but emotionally it's scary. So, your video was very raw but maybe what I needed to hear. I will listen to it a few more times to ensure I take it all in. Finally, I must say it's very brave and good of you to speak about vulnerability and uncertainty about the future.

I feel like there will be plenty of people in a position where uncertainty is a constant theme. At the moment, I am battling uncertainty and what I need to do to gain some certainty. It's tough. It can lead to doubt and that's the last thing you want if you are running your own business. I saw a clip on social media a few days ago that gave me a new perspective. I'd like to share that with you in today's video. Thank you for watching. I hope this helps you if you're facing the same. P

I think many of us who come from humble backgrounds sometime have guilt problems when it comes to money. Many years ago I was made redundant when the company I worked for went broke. The client I was working with contacted me to carry on the work I was already doing, working as a contractor. I asked my previous boss for advice on how much I should ask for. He basically told me how much the company had been charging the client for my services when I went on site (basically a 4 figure sum per day) . He told me to ask for the same amount, he didn’t think I would get it but that she would come in probably just slightly lower. Next day I get the call, she asks me how much I want, (and probably because of the guilt thing) I go in way, way lower than my boss said…..she agreed instantly. I knew straight away I’d undersold myself, she didn’t even hesitate to agree the amount I’d asked for - even though it was more than I’d ever earned in my life, it taught me an important lesson. Know your worth, and if you are good at what you do, don’t feel guilty asking for what you’re worth.

I'm hearing a lot of talk, at least here in the US, that banks are unloading/off-loading a great deal of commercial real estate (CRE) via mortgage backed securities (MBS), that are absolute dog doo. The financial moral hazard has reached an extreme...again. This is looking more and more like GFC 2.0. In essence, the banks are receiving a "backdoor" bailout via our pension fund managers.

First step, you need to open an account you can invest from. Second step, you transfer some money to the provide and buy an ETF or stock your choosing. The 2 steps I've mentioned in this video. No video is going to show you the actual process.
@SaveWithJords9 күн бұрын
There aren’t many videos that show you how. You can get an account on your phone with a low fee platform. Read online and pick one that suits you and the areas you want to invest in. Most have good instructions. An ISA might be a good place to start if you want tax benefits. But again see if right for you. Decide what you want to invest in and what platforms host that. Some options: Vanguard, Trading 212, Freeshare, Hargreaves Lansdown (not the cheapest), Moneybox. Just gotta look at what is best for you as it isn’t one size fits all.

Trading is very different to investing. Investing takes a long term view where trading looks at the quick trades for profit, it's also very volatile and fast moving.

I have been introduced to trading recently. And I had a theory that I would like to ask you - do all companies that hold our money trade it on the stock market? From ISAs to Pensions to even rental deposits?
@conversationofmoney12 күн бұрын
What do you mean?
@conversationofmoney12 күн бұрын
The companies, you invest in use the money to grow the business so they can deliver profits for shareholder, hence increasing the share price and attracting more investors. The companies don't take the money and trade it on the markets.

Interesting question. I am not sure if they invest it all in the stock market alone but I am sure they invest a large % of it. Money is like water if it stagnates becomes bad, it's best if it circulates in my opinion.😊
@conversationofmoney10 күн бұрын
@@laurindamota5791 Their first priority is to invest into the business because they have a duty to their shareholders to deliver profits from the business. Investing into the markets wouldn't be considered normal business activity.

Hi Peter, I have a question that I am thinking through the answer, hence would like to know your opinion if possible and I obviously recognise that your answer is not Financial Advice but just your opinion on the matter. I have a Nest work Pension (sharia fund) that attracts 25% tax relief and I also have a Self Investment ISA. I can keep investing on a monthly basis but do wonder which one is best to invest on. On my Self investment ISA I had a 34.4% return last year but on the Nest Pension there is the 25% tax relief. So, I wonder which one I should concentrate on investing!

I hate the "no one taught me about finance" argument. It's so dumb, I wasn't taught anything, in fact, the financial advice I was given was terrible. I taught myself. Anyone can learn about money and finance, it's just that people are too lazy and don't care enough to do it
@rufdymond19 күн бұрын
We’ll sort of - Im also self taught, in everything to do with finance. However, with regard to people being lazy I think it’s a bit more complicated than that. Firstly many people are genuinely terrified of doing anything in the financial space for fear of losing money. From an early age they believe this is only something experts can do…the jargon that surrounds the financial space doesn’t help either. Lastly and this is quite significant - a large section of the British population struggle to do even basic math….and this is a real barrier for many people.
@lzl3lol19 күн бұрын
@@rufdymond I understand people being scared but I do still think it's laziness. Every person I speak to about finance, money, etc they literally lose all interest and give me some cope statement like "why save or invest when it's impossible for me to buy a house anyway". People just find it boring and don't want to learn/educate themselves on the topic because they find it boring. I'm 27 and I can only have these conversations with people in their 40s and 50s because no one my age cares to learn about it. I still have people telling me fiat is backed by gold...

@kabenawilloughby70219 күн бұрын
When most of your income is stretched on essentials, it seems impossible to achieve anything material with the little that's left over. Don't forget that young people are only just transitioning into self sufficiency many of which still can't survive without a lifeline to parents. None of that promotes financial independence or initiative. We should defiantely talk about these things more are promote them to friends and our wider comunity, but it isn't as exciting as it could be for me or you. To many people it can be a source of anxiety and fear for alot of people feeling like they are running out of time or left behind.

I’m older now just into my 60s - one thing I would urge everyone to look at is the default fund you are often placed into in a work place pension. For me the fund I was in was far too conservative - switching in to a fun of my choice which was more aggressive increased my pension by a massive amount. It may not be something everyone wants to do, but it is worth exploring and getting advice on.

It's all manipulated to ensure that we vote Conservative in June . We are not stupid nor are we gullible. Inflation may have fallen but what does that mean for the price of food ? prices continueto increase , the farmers are not getting paid more yet the supermarkets report record profits this year . There are more billionaires than most working people ever imagined possible ,and being a millionaire appears to be a qualification to enter politics . We are not stupid.... Tax The Rich..... don't vote for Rishi .
