11:56 These a$$holes were unbelievable. It’s already a nightmare and they made it worse for a bunch of other people just so nobody would be too close to them. F*ck you to the moon!

You forgot to mention how Mulder says Home is like Mayberry, then the black Sheriff pulls up and his name is Andy Taylor. Mulder says “you’re joking…” such a great looks can be VERY deceiving joke.

I somehow agree with everything you said about the plot never saying anything and it all meaning nothing and the main character never really growing or becoming likable. I think the flip tricks got old fast and the ending is infuriatingly bad. I also found it really odd that Alcoholism was never addressed after his friend killed himself with a liquor bottle while drinking, he’s just keeps being like cheers yall let’s drink. But on the other hand I also super disagree. As someone who has bartended for 10 years it was wild to see how much hasn’t changed at all in the industry. All the dialog was immaculately entertaining. The love scenes when the two are just riffing on each other with charm that oozes out the screen is some of the best I’ve ever seen in a romantic comedy. The way him and Brian’s riffing never stops but you can feel when the jokes are meant to dig and it gets tense while jokes are still flying is wild. The monologue about bartending turning into one big night hit deep. It’s a movie who had great dialogue writers who also don’t understand morals. It was written by people who could be these people. Tom’s character being terrible yet still charming and interesting is what I loved most. And really captures the narcissism that comes with that line of work. Not redeeming it almost feels more right on a realism level but not a story level. It felt like a self indulgent fantasy that ends shallow but idk, that’s kinda a vibe still. If you’ve had charismatic co workers and gotten into trouble before and made that night life your personality nothing really captures that feeling like this movie. Technically it’s bad but I had a great time watching it. Also vanilla sky is toms worst movie and it’s not even close.

You say Sam is a voyeur, but where could he look to avoid such an accusation? I suspect that the opening scene deliberately implies that Sam is staring at the two girls, in order to place us in a position of judgement for the rest of the film, which we see through the eyes of Sam's subconscious. Once we have seen the film, we understand that Sam's real obsession is cracking codes. And he is more than likely interpreting the morse code message, written on the menu.

Memory is weird! I remembered that scene in the beginning at the baseball field having a little baby hand sticking out of the dirt. I guess my mind ran away with it.

Classic and very creepy episode, one I won't forget. The Johny Mathis song "Wonderful" made this horror scene extra horrifying - I will never listen to this Mathis song again without thinking of the brutal bludgeoning scene. Classic late 90's horror for TV.

Im pretty sure that when Sam kills the 'Songwriter' he really was murdering the comic book creator. After that he falls into such a delusional state he puts together an entire conspiracy that he thinks he followed, but it was all in his head since he is schizophrenic. He is def the dog killer too. I think the Owl's Kiss was a new persona he took on to explain the killings.

I love Cocktail, but I grew up with that film. It is very well paced and feels like a key chapter in Toms career. He is very charismatic in this movie. There are a lot of what ifs in this film and there are splashes of successful living with the close being a relationship with Jordon who is a nice person like you say amongst a lot of shitty people. This film was of a time where success was a big social pressure and women were competing heavily with men for the top spot. The angst of the high life blended well with the idea of the easy, common life. I enjoyed your review and you make a lot of great points, but for fans of this film, it’s not his worst film it’s a vital part of any 80’s collection or Tom Cruise collection.

So at first I misenterpreted when he was scrubbing his face after the skunk incident. I kind of zoned out and thought he had blood all over his face, and she was holding her nose because of a nosebleed. I thought this implied that he was hiding a violent nature, but we were only shown the good parts or public face. This violent tendency is later confirmed when he kills the artist… Did anyone else pick up on this? Maybe I just haven’t seen skunk spray before because it looked red

Surprised you didn't mention that this is one of, if not the only episode of the show that is never aired on television to this day. I remember seeing it as a kid back in the 90's and being freaked out. I still watch X Files on tv today but this episode is never played.

This was the best. I remember watching this and being horrified in the best was possible as it sunk into me and my husband what exactly what was happening. Fantastic and even better everyone in the world freaked out and half complained. This was a fantastic time to be alive before the internet had too much hold. We had to freak out face to face and i loved it. Watching it right now in celebration of this horrific yet winderful episode. Shout out to Johnny Mathis 😅😅

This episode was disturbing. I only watched a couple of episodes and this was one of them. There was another episode involving what appeared to be an Oompa Loompa (Wonka/Depp) that would roll himself around on a dolly. That was also bizzare.
