If you only perform one trade, like only painting, only roofing, or only framing, you are not required to hold a license, but if you perform more than one trade like a general contractor might, you would be required to have a license. Here’s the exact law from the state board: Who needs a license? Individuals and business that contract directly with homeowners to build or improve residential real estate (a building constructed for habitation by one to four families and detached garages) by offering work in more than one skill area are required to have a residential building contractor or remodeler license.

This is false, although Alabama does have a licensing law, it exempts all contractors who perform projects under a set limit, so far as recently that limit is 50,000$ in labor and materials, like other states who have exemption limits, Tennessee (25,000$), North Carolina (50,000$) , and Mississippi (25,000$). But it is still ridiculous that these states like Alabama or Tennessee have these licensing less when other states, Maine Vermont and Pennsylvania do not.
@jamesalvarez8733Ай бұрын
Montanas contractor registry is similar to that of Washington Idaho or Pennsylvania, and if you a contractor who has no employees, you are not required to be registered with the state. But the registration itself is much easier than other states like Nevada or Oregon because it does not require actual worker experience or years of experience and does not require testing like those states.
@jamesalvarez8733Ай бұрын
Pretty chaotic to have Louisiana have one system of laws, Washington another, Maine another, etc. I’ve heard a ton of issues because of this double standard system and you can only imagine the impact this has on competition and prices for consumers. Why is it that a home in Maine deserves to be less regulated than a home in Nevada or Oregon, or that a contractor in Texas and Washington needs less experience that a contractor in New York or Florida? Explains why we’re facing the housing crisis we’ve been in or the shortages some states face, generally all the states with that housing shortage are the ones with the most housing regulating and licensing laws for contractors.

@SierraJK2 ай бұрын
It is easy. but you should ensure that you learn from someone who knows what they are doing and is familiar with the electrical codes relevant to the work per NEC. Never disregard the code, it is there to ensure safety and that no electrical fires occur.

I've never seen a more convoluted and vague state to do handyman work in.. and 600$ allows you to change out a ceiling fan.. oh wait.. if that's allowed.. hard to tell.. the rules are vague.. very vague and.. no license required but rules are strict.. but are they? Who knows.. only you if you get caught doing something you don't know if you're allowed to do but nobody else will.. get a contractor to come to your house for under a 30k project.. yeah right... electricians and plumbers are slammed so they'll be right over to change out that p trap for 50$ 😅

I got licensed without having insurance. If you have no employees you can apply for an exemption certificate. Although you do still need at least general liability insurance to be able to actually perform work.

@MrJahka10 ай бұрын
Lol you are confused. Inside wireman are fully credentialed journeymen capable of working on all types of electrical systems, past the service point. It is the most qualified (at the Journey level) and most common type of electrician, it’s just the the technical term rather than the colloquial term

Do years as an approved apprentice time count towards the 5.5 years? The years you work as an apprentice or do you have to be a journeyman for those years
