The most memorable adaptation for me is the one with Andy Lau and Idy Chan. I vaguely remember it now as I was a young teenager when I saw it. I more recently watched it again and love it. It was also really fresh for me as I was seeing it as an adult for the first time. I also did see a more recent adaptation done several years ago as well. Even though I already know the story, I enjoyed watching a more modern adaptation. I felt it did fill in and expanded some of the story from the Andy Lau/Idy Chan one. I always loved watching Wu Xia stories on film and TV. There is something magical about them and they make me feel like a kid again.

I would actually love to see a well written story about Lin Chao Ying with Wang Chong Yang, exploring how she became so conflicted and bitter leading to the creation of your clan.

I always love the 4th adaptation, featuring Andy Lau & Idy Chen Ie Lin. Their performance and chemistry is strongly awesome & memorable. Too bad they didn’t tie the knot in the real life. Idy was and still very beautiful and compelling. Her mesmerizing gaze is a show stopper & unforgetable.

Yang Guo's story of the 2nd triology is the best. Book 1 and 3 are just a wrap around his story. I prefer the books version over the movies. There are many things the movies can't match.

Imo older chinese movies have better storytelling and even their comedical genre are great. That's why older chinese media are very popular across the globe. Chinese recent movies meanwhile seems only focused on how to look beautiful and abandon their old formula.

My most memorable ROCH is Andy Lau and Idy Chan version. Eventho, at that time i was just a kid, i was amazed by the story. After that, i found it difficult to watch the other adaptation, 2014 - 2015 is good, but still Andy Lau's version is memorable. I don't watch the 2022 version yet but i hope it's good adaptation. Thanks for the video.

1994 hands down my favorite , but it has been a disappointment after that. Either the main guy was a mis casat or the main girl. When they get both cast correct they chop the storyline so bad it's never good.

Agreed, the length of the story seems to be an issue for TV adaptations. Good casting is so important but really not enough to sustain interest if the screenplay is weak :( Thanks for sharing!

It would be better if they are going to keep making adaptions, they should do adaptions based on the female protagonist point of view. Huang rong, xiao long nu and zhao ming are all sooo complicated and more 3 dimensional then most live adaptions give them credit.
