Don’t worry. You’re not behind. We’re all on a blue globe circling a giant nuclear fusion reactor. No one knows what they are doing here lol But everything will come together once you build on yourself; build your skill set and focus on what you’d like to do in this world… preferably while making money :) Experiment for a little bit. Then “get in where you fit in.”

I think it's ok to be a bit "behind." especially with today's job market, I've been seeing lots of people around our age confess that they don't feel passionate about their chosen field because they had to decide what they wanted to be too early on in life! I didn't know what I wanted in college and dropped out twice but now I'm going back in to finish my AA in a field I would've NEVER chosen when I was 18 and fresh out of HS. The time you spent in the in-between was still valuable because you learned from it! You'll get to where you need/want to be in due time, it just might not be the time you think. <3 You've got a very strong soul so I have no doubt you'll succeed in life!

this is an interesting perspective because i have about a decade of experience in the service industry as well as a linguistics degree. i love languages and i’m from a very monolingual area but i taught myself spanish at an early age and always made an effort to use it at work when i could, especially after i moved to southern california. i’m aware of the child translator dynamic because you just run into it all the time in a multicultural area, and i personally would imagine it would be frustrating as an adult to have to talk through a child most of the time. so i would have thought i could provide some relief to parents in this situation (i don’t look like i would speak spanish so they usually just assume) but it often takes a while to get them to switch gears and just talk to me directly instead of through their kid even though there’s literally no language barrier. I’ve worked and spoken extensively with many spanish speakers and i have my court interpreter’s certification so maybe my spanish wasn’t perfect but it was definitely functional enough that people could stop talking through their kid, but a lot of them just didn’t seem to want to. i could not figure it out for the longest time and then one day it just dawned on me, they are parents. and shitty parents and parentification are cross cultural lol. people still think of their kids as their personal staff unfortunately.
