Uses commercial product and commercial electronics on commercial platform to produce symbol of the most totalitarian communist regime in history. This is irony yes?

The hammer and sickle is mostly because the project is solely based on open-source software. And the open source concept is somehow (jokingly?) linked to communism.

This project is pretty cool, I am planning on building a similar one. How did you build yours, did each nixie have its own controller chip (SN74141, k155id1, etc) or did you use a single one? I also want to have cathode poisoning prevention run from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM every ten seconds with an effect similar to how your clock looks at 0:20, with all digits randomly shuffling like that simultaneously. However, my clock will probably use one controller instead of many, so I do not know how I would go about this. What did you use to program your clock? I'd like a look at your programming if you would be so kind to show me :)
@photogeek1006 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I used 8 K155ID1 ICs for this project. But using a single IC and switching Nixie anodes should be fine too. My design is based on Atmel AVR, I don't have the final program handy, but I do have the project I used for the initial dimming/PWM testing: github.com/boriz/miscellaneous-projects/blob/master/files/NixieTest_2010-12-20.zip I'll try ti find the final project and move it to git.
@bensullivan4206 жыл бұрын
Oh awesome. Thank you so much. So glad you replied! I'm really excited to pretty much design a nixie clock from the ground up, and not knowing much of anything about programming or electronics beyond how to solder, understanding resistors, transistors, etc it really helps to have people like you for information! Super cool project, relying on my programmer friend to help me with it, since he also wants to build a clock (His isn't a nixie clock, but is called a TIX clock, a kind of binary clock. He had wanted to build it for a long time, but only now is starting on it because he realized there was someone else who had an unusual enthusiasm for building clocks). Thank you so much! If I run into more questions, I will see if you can help me out in other places. It's going to be a long build, and since I'm a senior in high school, it will undoubtedly take a while, so the pace will pick up in the summer. Stay tuned! I will let you know how it all goes!
