Probably OK, knowing that the train is all covered hoppers and not moving fast. It's things like load securing straps and sheeting off centerbeams that can mess you up.

Nice catch, Mark. I'm sad I never caught any of the Camas Prairie B23-7s on the IR. In fact, the only IR train I've ever seen actually moving was the Oregon, IL Unimin switch in October of 2013 and it had two HLCX ex-UP GP38-2s. Do you have any knowledge of why there's been an ex-BN caboose sitting on a siding along the IR tracks in Ottawa since at least 2003?

Why are tracks that are in that bad of a shape still being used? I thought the video was being slowed down, but the train is actually moving very slowly around the bend. That doesn't inspire confidence in the safety rail travel.

There are people in the area who are studying the possibility of bringing back passenger trains to the city. The plan is to include Savanna as a stop between Chicago and Dubuque Iowa.

Thanks for this post. I have just came across this post tonight. I wish I saw it sooner. The Rockton IL footage was especially interesting to me. My grandparents lived by Taylor Freezer off of Blackhawk Blvd. I was able to find the place because Army Barricks use to be on their street and still are there to this day. Their house was not built yet, but the neighbor's house that was across the street is there. Interesting enough that house still exists but is no longer on Dingman drive. It was moved in 1980 to behind my grandparents' house on Blackhawk blvd. They moved it when Taylor freezer was expanding and bought that property. It is now their parking lot. I could not understand why Blackhawk Blvd angled the way it did in your post. Then I remembered that hwy 2 did not connect up to it yet. I then compared it to current aerials of Rockton. Then bam it all made sense. The service roads along hwy 2 in both Rockton and going into South Beloit are the old roadway to Beloit. Now I understand why Blackhawk blvd was the way it was in your post. Thank you again. I enjoyed going down memory lane.

I counted a total of thirty three cars. When they said Amtrak’s Material Handling years reached their peak in the early 2000s, they meant it.

Now this is one of my favorite lines for seeing BN freights. Not only for the traffic density but for the SUPERB farmland country it passes through. Those westbounds you spotted appear to be a loaded grainer & one of the 40 symboled SHOOTERS destined for the Intermodal yard in Midway.

Nice to have this documented! We live a mile from Graytown and I see remnants of concrete bridgework. Some presumably from the rerouted county highway K but some perhaps from the Glenwood and Northern RR. I believe they both ran on the east side of the Hay River from Connorsville up to Graytown.

@TrentonDominy7 ай бұрын
@@historicaerialsonvideo no they have been removed or are being removed by the owner of megatrax. Interesting we never actually owned that section of track it wasn’t until recent years that the owners of megatrax were aware that they actually owned the track by the building. And those tracks are in pretty bad shape so we will never venture past the shed. The speed car shed is better protected from the elements this way as well as giving us a new workspace.

@historicaerialsonvideo7 ай бұрын
I was talking to a local fella there while waiting; told him how lucky they were to have 8 daily passenger trains thru their town (though the CZ isn't a scheduled stop). I'm due a dive into an Official Guide to see how long ago it was that 8 passenger trains ran through here (and to be fair, just on the CB&Q!). A total # with the IC and MILW included will be alot higher (guessing no later than late 1930s....)
