Kwenda Lima (Cape Verde, Africa) Kwenda Lima was born in Cape Verde in 1977. He says he started dancing since he was in his mother’s belly, because his mother was choreographer. Kwenda learned kizomba from one of the early pioneers of this dance, Ze Barbosa. Kwenda has also been one of the early influences for now famous kizomba dancers - Albir Rojas and Felicien. Kwenda has a spiritual approach to the dance and he calls it “kaizen”. Kaizen is expressed through various tribal dance movements and the movements are a form of communication, and are meant to convey universal unity. Kaizen is a Japanese term meaning “change for the better”. Kwenda has been teaching kizomba since he was 18 years old. Now he has more than ten years of experience teaching traditional and modern couple dances from Angola. Recently he has been working on dancing projects around contemporary African dance, his latest work is Muloma, which means “let us be united”. Kwenda is currently living in Lisbon, Portugal and he goes around the world teaching at kizomba festivals and conducting kaizen workshops as well.
