Your video and why I bought thermals reminded me of a tough lesson I learned the hard way about why I use thermal stuff, hogs and how destructive they can be. Years ago, I had lease in SW Oklahoma-a quarter section. I’d often see 100+ deer/sit. It was so good that several respected hunters I know told me it might be the best 160 in the county. (I did not and have no idea if they’re right). One year I had two BC bucks living on me, I even knew where they bedded. Then the hogs moved in. Three packs of 20-30 pigs took over, and the deer vanished. All of them. But I didn’t know it until it was too late. That year I ran a light footprint-cellular cameras weren’t a thing yet, I bought huge feeders that didn’t require frequent refills and I avoided pulling SD cards to keep the area undisturbed. Opening morning of rifle season, walking in before sunrise, I could smell the damn things…I could hear them bickering and fighting each other just to my north, maybe just 50yds or less in the brush. By the second day, after three sits in different stands, I realized my deer were gone. I saw three does total. That’s it. We went to war. Suppressed M-16s, (that wasn’t the most productive approach but was definitely the most fun!) A trapper, a guy with dogs- everything and anyone who knew what they were doing were invited and invaded. We got rid of the hogs, but the damage was done. Both BC bucks I’d patterned were killed next door during rifle season. Here’s the takeaway: If you have hogs, be ready to control them immediately. They’re not just bad for wheat or whatever; they’re a nightmare for your deer herd. They’ll run deer off every single time they move in, and they’ll ruin your season if you’re not on top of them. There’s nothing good about hogs except they’re fun to hunt, and if you don’t have them yet, count your blessings. Second lesson: coyotes play hell with fawns. Shooting them won’t do what needs doing…either hunting from helicopters or trapping are the only things that I’m aware of that works well. Trapping in April here is best, just before fawns drop because mommas quickly learn where they are safe but you’ve got to trap the same ground every year. That first year he caught 17 coyotes in 14 days. They knew where the deer were too. I hunt these things because it’s fun…maybe some are good enough to be able to confidently say they control either hogs or coyotes but I can’t say that. But it IS fun! Thanks again for the great video. Hope this helps some hunters avoid learning the hard way like I did.

Well done-great video! Easy-to-follow directions and an excellent optic. I wish this had been available when I pulled the pin and started buying gear. Thermal tech is evolving so quickly it reminds me of buying computers in the early days. Whatever you buy works, but it’s almost immediately surpassed and less expensive. I have a Trijicon ReapIR and high-end Pulsar binos (whichever ones were most expensive) , but I don’t use them often enough to remember all the menus and controls. It’s frustrating when I forget how to change or use something. So, here are my questions: 1. Ease of Use: For someone who hunts only a handful of times per year, how intuitive is this scope? Can I set it up once, turn it on, and just hunt without fumbling through menus? 2. Key Functions: Are basic features like zoom, changing palettes, and ranging easy to access? Or does it involve multiple submenus? 3. Recording Features: Am I in the minority here, or does every predator/hog hunter want to record their hunts? I don’t care to replay kills-I’m just here to solve a problem, not make a highlight reel. Is the recording feature optional, or is it another button I’ll accidentally hit? 4. Comparison: How does this scope compare to a Trijicon Reap IR or top-tier Pulsar binos in terms of clarity and usability?

So Cabela's has the "Wraith HD 4K MAX" on Black Friday sale for $399 next week. Virginia DWR does not seem to ban nightvision per se, but there are official deer shooting hours, of course. So I'm interested in getting this instead of a typical optical scope for my bolt-action deer rifle, if it will help my aging eyes detect deer and discern if a deer has antlers in the waning minutes of shooting light (e.g. 28 minutes after official dusk). I would think so. However, wouldn't the IR illumination for the nightvision component spook the deer if it kicks in at dusk? Also, would it drain the battery just to have it on to function as a standard scope in broad daylight during an all-day sit, like during the rut? Do people who hunt with this all day just fire it up if they see a deer, to save battery life?

Great walk thru video. Having issues getting the rear eyepiece to bring the reticke and menu letters to clear up perfectly today-mounted and zeroing in the scope today for a friend; im familiar with pulsar equipment and had no problem with them.....is there something i should be doing or have the HD turned on in the settings? Suggestions anyone...

Great review! Have you tried the PARD NV 008S with LRF or the NV 008SP2 (LRF) 2k ? The laser range finder is integrated with Ballastic calculator. Most of the reviews are for air rifles and not sure why? 4.5 base magnification and only 2x digital but the PIP view is doubled so technically you get 18x digital in the small view. I hope you can review one soon. If you do review it, it has a gyroscope for rifle cant/tilt and angle and wonder how sensitive it is compared to the SG Pulse. I contacted PARD and in current firmware the Ballastic calculator does not use the gyroscope horizontal to determine (COS) correction for target elevation. Uses 18650 battery too. Has some great features, is it lipstick on pig or bargain NV?

I got one ordered today - my first thermal anything. I don't hunt, although I do shoot a lot and "could" hunt. What I bought it for is home security, like when my dog barks at something in the swail behind the house but I can't see a damned thing out there in the dark. I understand it can also ID thermal leaks in the house and so on. I don't need to ID things at 400 yards, or probably even 100 yards, and I knew IR wasn't going to cut it. We have redtail hawks that fly around and park in nearby trees - and we have a small dog we like to let out. So I can scan the nearby trees and look for a hotspot up there. Anyway, Amazon prime days started today so I dropped the coin ($500-ish). You didn't talk much about the app or wifi connectivity to your phone - my understanding is the device responds more quickly to the phone app, and that you can stream to your phone when you're taking video. We'll see how that goes; it's had good reviews for that as well. Thanks for the vid :)
