I regret that I didn't make the 350 mile trip to Atlanta to see him, and the other Celtics play the Hawks, one time, live. That was the closest choice I had, but I had to work too many hours, I thought, back then. I could have done it.

I was born in Redondo Beach CA..... I grew up in Indiana.....white... I'm almost 62....played basketball almost every day....had two older brothers.....my brother came home one day....and all he could talk about was Larry Bird and Majic Johnson when they were in college....we all watched them ever since......words can't describe their hard work....their talent.... their passion....and their leadership....and their humbleness.....I'm forever changed by these two ..... thank you ......for being you.....lol......live it up men....you deserve it....! 💜

Both Magic & Bird's careers were cut short due to health issues & yet they still managed to give us a lifetime of competitiveness & memories. Lakers vs. Celtics will always be the greatest NBA rivalry in my opinion...

No longer a fan of the nba. My choice. I love the game of basketball though. I feel so fortunate to have grown up watching Magic and Bird. The two storied franchises. When the game was tough, the men tougher. What a golden era.

I would like some input on the play style of his Celtics teams. I am playing fantasy and would like to know what personnel to build around him. I’m going to add that Larry Bird is A Complete Basketball Player. His skills and abilities covered every aspect of the Art of Basketball.

Larry is the biggest "What if" in Basketball history. no disrespect to all the other great great players that can be mentioned here, but he crippled his back just right at the beginning of his prime, and STILL made it into the hall of fame and even has claims to be top 10 ever. all while playing hurt, when most player really start cementing their careers.

They said he couldn't dunk. But, there are too many highlight reels showing him dunking. Larry once told a reporter that dunking wasn't a shot and once he could dunk he said ok, I'll just practice from behind the backboard (which he did) Even the best defensive players in the NBA said ok, if I can keep him under 25 points we might win. Like the man said, he was playing chess while the rest were playing checkers. Had injuries not killed his career, no telling what his final numbers would have been.

The game itself was so much better back then. Certainly more entertaining. They ran fast breaks, had set plays for all players, played defense, great passing, etc. Now it’s all players steam-rolling each other on the way to the basket and then, subsequently, the foul line or watching mediocre shooters heave 3-pointers all game long. BOOOOORING! I rarely missed a game back in the 80’s and early 90’s, now I might watch the Finals but that’s about it.

As someone who played ball in NYC at Divsion 1 , The Cage and at Rucker Park. I remember we would see plays that Larry Bird did and try to do it at playground and it was impossible. Truly one of the greatest.
