Don't agree with him when he said that. It is a entry level guitar judging by the quality and sound. This instrument is performance and tour quality.

What’s the difference between that and the 814?
@Theupperbout14 күн бұрын
To be honest, barring all of the fancy appointments, there's very little separating the two guitars. They are both made of the same woods i.e. sitka spruce tops, East Indian Rosewood back and sides, ebony bridge and fingerboards. If you need your guitar to have loads of inlay and fancy appointments then the 800 series is your guitar. However, if you just want the tonal characteristics of sitka spruce and rosewood, save your money and pick up the 400 series in rosewood.

Which is better? This or the original with sitka spruce?
@bluegrypАй бұрын
The sitka tends to be a little more tinny sounding. I’m not a fan. The hog top mellows it out and makes it more balanced tonally. The koa is good too.

Sorry, but it sounds like you guys are (naturally) biased. I mean, there’s no way a $5000 guitar is that much better than a $2800 one-it’s just not possible. Sure, maybe the folks at Gibson put a little extra care into them, and there might be more handcrafting, but wood doesn’t make that big a difference. Sorry, guys.
@Theupperbout3 ай бұрын
I own a guitar shop so "natural bias" might actually be a thing. With that being said, the Custom Shop guitars are significantly better guitars across the board. Do I believe they are worth double the price? Not so much! Thank you for the feedback.

People fail to account that in the 50s all Les Paul's were off the shelf standards and theoretically all created equal. It baffels me how someone say man im buying this 35k dollar les Paul so i can sound just like clapton in the 60s. Not understanding that claptons guitars were brand new in the 60s not 75 year old vintage models. My advice is buy a standard save some money and sound like you, because your never going to be them. There are situations where you are trying to sound like a vintage instrument of the old days with the equipment of today and thats fine if its worth the premium to you then go for it. But dont think your going to buy a 10k dollar murphy lab Les Paul and sound like ohh clapton on guitar gently weeps because his 59 lp was still practicly new then..

Also people didnt buy bursts in the 50s thinking man this is gonna be worth a house in 80 years, they bought them to play them.

Your stop tail is wrong. I feature my -- single owner -- 1977 Univox LP-JR Single-SB / DC on my channel, which I purchased brand new (duplicitous statement with "single owner"). I did have to change the tortoise shell pick guard (the original, which I kept, "crystalized"). I also changed the pots (the originals, which I kept, are "scratchy"). In any case, the stop tail should be fully adjustable (which makes the Univox superior to the Gibson brand -- hence, the "limited edition", as Univox was sued by Gibson and had to cease production).

Great Sounding Guitars For The Price
@sdriza8 ай бұрын
I bought a cheap, plastic "X" Martin when they first came out - I've bought, sold, and played probably 50+ other guitars in the interim it doesn't sound "great" - nor is it "exceptional" to play, but it is durable, reliable, and consistent. Need a decent beach guitar? a camping guitar? One week, you might be camping in the cold rain in Oregon - pull that X factor Martin out a week later in the dry heat of Vegas AND IT MIGHT STILL BE IN TUNE!!!! When it comes to a beater guitar, I'm sold on richlight, xood, whatever they use.... I could get off the top lift in Aspen, sit on it and carve my way down to the bar, dust it off, and break out Pinball Wizard w/o touching a tuner.

I have a '60s standard and a '59 VOS reissue and there is a noticeable difference in playability and quality of tone. I definitely prefer the Custom Shop Les Paul but I can't say it's "twice as good" because the '60s standard is an awesome guitar in its own right. I love them both.

I've played both of these, the Taylor has a bright, arguably harsh sound, whereas the Martin is far more balanced. I preferred the Martin.

I owned this guitar personally and I can guarantee that the top is mahogany. Gibson made a very limited number of mahogany top guitars during the war. This was confirmed by Gibson. Super rare guitar! Thank you for your insight though.
