It would be nice if they put a wide margin on something like this. All the LSBs with margins for writing don't have the footnotes. You either get foot notes and no margin or a margin and no footnotes.

Super interesting from my brother David Lee Brown at San Antonio Tabernacle House of Prayer. While I respect their opinions, here's mine. I believe the law of Christ is the law of Moses, for Christ said his doctrine was not his but his Father's and that doctrine is the Torah as we read in Proverbs 4:2. Christ gave his law to Moses at Sinai. The new covenant is this Sinai covenant now renewed in the blood of Messiah and empowered by the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 36:27, Jeremiah 31:33). The law spoken by Jeremiah in Hebrew is TORAH, not a different kind of diminished christianised law. What is discussed in the new testament is the law of Judaism, man made traditions and regulations that contradicted the law of God. Those laws are not to be put on shoulders of the gentiles coming to faith. But God's law is the one everyone must obey as Isaiah 56:1-8 exhorts regarding gentiles. There is a reason for the apostles and disciples for keep bringing sacrifices to the temple as long as it stood many years after the resurrection of Jesus. The law has never been abolished or diminished for easy keeping. The priesthood was changed but in heaven, not on earth as Hebrew says, for the law remains. So when Jesus comes back the levites will go on with their ministry UNDER the priesthood of Messiah. This is why we see sacrifices being restored during the millennial reign of Jesus from Jerusalem. The only sacrifice that has come to an end is ATONEMENT FOR SIN. The changes of the priesthood required an adjustment on the law (no more need for atonement sacrifice), which was prophesied, but the rest of the law of Moses which is the covenant between God and his people has not been abolished nor changed. Jesus said he did not come to abolish the law or the prophets, so that truth is still true.

Personally, I love single column in paragraph format and with black letter only. But as of December 2024, the LSB does not have a single column, paragraph format, black letter edition! I emailed 316 Publishing and that's what they told me. However I hope someday the LSB will have a single column, paragraph format, black letter edition. 😀

Regarding Yahweh (instead of Lord) and slave (instead of servant), I saw this from the biblical scholar Iain Duguid (professor at Westminster Theological Seminary and translator/consultant for the HCSB/CSB): Let me start, as I always do, by reminding us that translation is really hard. You can't write extensive notes to defend your decisions, as you would in a commentary, half of your footnotes will be deleted and there's always a chance that an English style editor will change what you wrote. You are also often hemmed in by the unwise decisions of a general editor somewhere along the way, often someone who has no personal experience of the translation process. I also haven't used the LSB extensively, so bear that in mind in reading my evaluation. Having said that, I think some of their most trumpeted distinctions are fundamentally wrong-headed. Take the use of Yahweh throughout for the divine name. I get the attractiveness of that, and in some contexts it really pops as a translation. Think "I am Yahweh" or "Yahweh said to my lord" (Ps 110:1). In other places, however, it messes with people's favorite translations, for example: "Yahweh is my shepherd". That's why the HCSB went with Yahweh in some places and "the LORD" elsewhere - but that leaves you with some really strange alternations between the two, which is why the CSB ditched Yahweh completely. More importantly, it drives a wedge between the testaments, since the NT quotation of an OT passage often doesn't match. Even more importantly, the average reader won't now see that the NT is calling Jesus the same title as the OT calls Yahweh, "the Lord". If it is good enough for Jesus to use kurios when translating Yahweh, I can't think why "the LORD" isn't good enough for us. The same problem exists for the much-trumpeted doulos = slave in all contexts translation. There are some places where doulos certainly ought to be translated slave. But there are plenty of other places where "servant" is a more apt rendition into English of the person's role. The result is a flattening of the Biblical text that results in a loss of nuance. It also - once again - threatens to put a rift between the OT and the NT; for example, according to this understanding Zech 3:8 ought to speak of "my slave, the Branch" (since LXX has doulos); fortunately, the translation goes for a more sensible (and traditional) "my servant, the Branch"). Very few words in one language always translate into a single word in another language: that's just not how languages work; so for example, ruach should be rendered breath, Spirit and wind, sometimes all within a short space (e.g. Ezek. 37:1-14). That's why nobody (except perhaps Youngs literal translation, which completely misrepresents the meaning of Ezekiel 37 because of its overly literal translation) adopts a consistently literal translation policy. Everyone (including the LSB) uses a more dynamic translation sometimes. Finally, I don't think any one institution has the resources to do a great translation. For the CSB oversight committee, we have translators from a wide variety of backgrounds, who each brought their own expertise (including a full time in house editor to check consistency between parallel passages across the board). It still sometimes felt like an overwhelming project.

I would say the korean bible and royal jongbloed are pretty much on par, the Chinese bibles may not as much, but still nice.

Great vid but I fear people won't enjoy the chalkiness left on the page edges. Would not use this ink on a premier bible or a bible you use. Would hate to see someone ruin their favorite Bible. Archival ink from the same brand is made for this. God bless

I've given 2 LSB goat skin edge lined bibles away so far. I have a Shamar goatskin edge lined first edition handy size and a goatskin edge lined compact addition. How is the PPR in size comparison to the compact edition? I find the handy size to be too big to carry around

I love the LSB, we have gotten a few of them for our family, i have a black cowhide handy size single column that is my favorite Bible i own and recently got the burgundy cowhide compact for travel and such, my son has a large print single column faux leather and a compact goatskin five solas LSB. So we have our church/and study ones and our travel ones because they are just incredible Bibles and they are great quality especially the goatskin five solas. The compacts cowhide is a lot stiffer than the handy sizes but if your considering buying one i strongly suggest it. The translation is what i love most though. It really is in my opinion the best translation I've read and I've read quite a few. It translates the tetragrammaton YHWH as Yahweh which is really awesome to see when reading through the old testament and the new testament is done incredibly as well. If you get one you won't regret it.

I am reading the LSB alongside ESV and some others. I do really love some things in the LSB. I wish they put more of the dead sea scrolls in it. Deut 32 Sons of God instead of Sons of Israel. Things like that. But I'm not too concerned with it because we have multiple translations to pick from and an abundance of commentaries. Great video!

Re Hebrews 10: I will admit “Calvinism” without a true Reformed systematic including proper covenant theology will not be able to answer your objection to the perseverance of the saints. Paul Washer and John MacArthur and similar other ‘Calvinistic’ baptists do not have a good answer to why people fall out of the new covenant. But I assure you that the actual historic Reformed position does so easily. Calvinism is not just a name for TULIP, it’s actually a misnomer for the entire Reformed tradition that includes a multitude of other doctrines includes sacramentology and covenant theology. What is understood is the following: all those who enter the new covenant community, whether are proselytes or by birth, are sanctified by the blood of Christ in the real sense that they are set apart from the rest of the world. The Reformed systematic recognizes that the new covenant community includes the elect as well as the non-elect. Both of those individuals have faith, but only elect regenerate believers will be given perseverance such that their lasting faith is revealed to be a saving faith gifted by God, so that those who fall away are revealed to have had an evanescence (temporary) faith permitted by God that ultimately faded away. How severe of a punishment is it to have been part of the covenant community, partaken of the benefits of the Holy Spirit, to then go forth and willfully sin and disgrace the blood of the covenant that set you apart? See how that makes sense now: there are people in the covenant community that leave who are bringing on themselves such a greater judgement, because their faith did not persevere and their status as not being among the elect was manifested to everyone else. They left us because they were never of us. But these are not the saints who persevere, and thus the doctrine of perseverance of the saints maintains its validity. I see that you’ve then unravelled the rest of the Reformed doctrines of grace, and it saddens me, but hopefully my comment inspires to read Reformed literature that is not written by ‘Reformed’ baptists, but from those saints of the past tied to the reformation (Presbyterians, Dutch reformed, etc) who can succinctly tie all of the scriptures with the Reformed systematic, in my humble opinion the most beautiful and faithful interpretation of the whole of scripture. It's not just tye ESV that does this so does the NLT and the CSB they all don't have that verse. Please don't just pick on one translation do some more research before saying things like that. It make it sound like the ESV is the only translation that does this.
