I think it looks fantastic and I want to know more about that rust paint, is it something I can get in the us ?, great design and the framework is perfect 👌 👍
@RobsGarageDays6 күн бұрын
Gday, thank you for watching and for your positive comment. The rust effect paint is a Dulux brand. Purchased at Bunnings here in Australia. I’ll leave a link in the description. It’s a 2 step process effect paint. Lay down the paint first and then spray/mist a 2nd step on top of it to make the paint react. I then seal it with a water based clear coat. I did a quick Google search and it appears that Dulux trades under PPG in the US. I wouldn’t know if Lowes might have it or something under another brand? I hope you can find something similar over there!

The factory assembly manual shows that they take height measurements off the front and rear bumper jack points to determine accurate ride height. Firebird's already sit lower in the rear for aerodynamic reasons plus the engine cooling mostly comes mostly from underneath the front bumper. The factory had many leaf spring option from one mono leaf to a 5 leaf setup depending on option plus probably depending on assembled ride height measurement after assembly. My 79 originally came with four leaf springs and was sagging quite a bit. Come to find out both LH and RH top springs were broke and after new four leaf springs replaced ride height is back to normal. Could also play around with tire sizes, I have heard 275/60r15's fit well all around., but for me I'm going to run 255/60r15's since they are super close to the factory size 70 series tire, and I can do a four tire rotation. Nice looking T/A, love seeing folks taking care of there Fire Chickens ( as my 4 year old daughter called the Phoenix).
@RobsGarageDays11 күн бұрын
G'Day mate, Thank you so much for your comment. I value it. 275 60 15 fit easily on the rear but not sure how they'd go on the front. A 4 tyre rotation would be a great thing to do. See ya, Rob.

G’day mate, I recon a sliding one would be doable too. It would def’ look grouse! I was thinking of making it as a sliding tray with holes in it, using sliders from a draw but as little as it would be it still would have come outta my wallet and the truck is about spending as little as possible. I’d love to see your Dato! And I’d love to see your version of cup holders. Have fun, thanks for watching and commenting.

Great Job once again Robbie. Looks the part too which is even more impressive. Hopefully no water leaks into the cab through those bolt holes, you did way too much decking it out to have it leak on you. The center piece really fits the visor nicely. To bend that edge you could have put that round rod on the edge of your work bench and clamped the sheet metal under it and then bent the sheet metal over the round rod just like you would use a metal break to get a nice clean smooth bend. 👍
