It is physically impossible to watch this scene w/o shedding some tears. Their story/friendship was one of the greatest of all-time.

The world needs more people like Gayle Sayers to show what being “un-selfish” is all about ❤🏈! We all could learn something from Him.

My dad was a tough and rugged man that worked at the shipyard for 38 years. The only two times I ever seen him cry was when his dad died and Brian Piccolo died in this movie. I remember as a young man, in the 1970’s, watching this movie with him and seeing him wiping his eyes from the tears. I didn’t quite know what to think of it. Pop, I sure do miss you☹️

Too Bad both James Caan & Billy Dee Williams didn't end up a Tie for the Emmy with this Movie. They sure both deserved it. I still cry when I hear the Brian's Song Theme.

I found an old newspaper account of this speech. The words used in the movie were substantially the ones Sayers actually spoke.

Billy Dee should have won the Emmy for this scene alone. If you don’t cry at this scene, you’re not human.
@cassieennis50710 ай бұрын
That's because his other half in the movie - James Caan won it. They should have been nominated as a team or figured out how to give them a tie - because they both deserved it. I cry every time I hear the Theme to the Movie - It was probably my first ugly cry movie as a kid watching TV in the 70s.

According to Gale Sayers's book, Piccolo called Sayers after he heard that speech and said to him, "If you were here, I'd kiss you." Sayers laughed and replied, "Glad I'm not there, then."

The very simple, "I love Brian Piccolo" made me cry like a baby when I first saw this movie and it still makes me cry. I can only imagine how many people in the audience that night were sobbing inconsolably too.
