Captains, along with guards, are rotated out. Some guards come back after some time away. Captains have a longer rotation. Some Captains are seen once and not seen again. No one is assigned there permanently. Even the horses are rotated out. A few come back, but most don't and are assigned other duties. They are all British army, so I imagine they have many Captains and even more guards, that are actually soldiers.

@@westsideglory8849 , thank you for your reply. Had a feeling he may have gotten a different assignment . Yes, horses do get rotated which is good. They can get stale if they are not rechallenged periodically. Enjoy learning about the history of the guard and Horse Guards the historic site. Regards from US.

As it should be everyday! This is ceremonial. Steeped in tradition, going back hundreds of years. It's an honor for these guards to serve here. Entitled tourists have made a mockery out of this. Treating guards, their horses and Whitehall as if it were Disneyland. Let the guards have some peace and quite as they end the day, without loud, disrespectful tourists.
