Kimi's problem was he was never at a team when they had their act together or the top design person had left. I think when he was at McLaren that Newey had left. Steve Nichols had left after the MP 4/4/5 era but later came back to McLaren for a while during the Mika Hakkinen era. As far as I know, Steve was not there during the Kimi era. I think when Kimi was at Ferrari - Ross Brawn and Rory Byrne had left. Kimi's time at Lotus was pretty good because he had a younger James Allison at Lotus. Allison is almost at Newey and Ross Brawn/Byrne level. No matter what Gordon Murray says, the McLaren MP 4/4 was Steve Nichols and Steve's design team's car. The MP 4/4 was an eveolution of Steve's MP 4/3. I think if Kimi had been at McLaren when Newey was there or Ferrari with Brawn/Byrne then he would have won at least 3 F1 wolrd championships. When Kimi had a decent car, he was magic to watch. The McLaren was pretty good when he was there but not very reliable.
