Hi Sarah, thanks for the very helpful video 😊. When you warp is it very heavy to pull away from the wall please? Also how many boxes does it come in, and are they very heavy? Thanks 😊
@sarakaluczaweaving4 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. Don't remember how many boxes, perhaps 3 or 4? Some quite heavy. It's not very heavy to move a little bit. In my new location I have it set up so I don't have to move at all which is great

We managed to build it and replace the few missing bits, however it has been so difficult to find any information on how to set it up and get those shafts to balance beautifully. Thank you so much for these tips. I have a swedish 4 shaft counterbalance loom with instructions (technical school) to alter it to 6 shafts and am having so much trouble balancing it. The elastics seem a brilliant solution.

Om glad it's helpful! The balancing can be challenging especially for narrower warps, The elastics are such an easy and cheap game changer!

Great video! I have some of the same looms as you have: a Louet David (mine's the first generation, with the swinging beater), a Glimakra Ideal, only mine is Countermarch. I hope to order the Counterbalance mechanism for it soon, for versatility. I also have a Schacht Inkle and a 2-shaft table loom. My table loom is an older American brand, called a Peacock Loom, much smaller and less substantial than yours. I suspect yours is Finnish or Russian. FYI, the ultimate band-weaving loom, in my opinion, is the table loom! And two shafts is really all your need. Just remove the reed and thread for plainweave. Works better than any of the ones I've tried that are actually made for bandweaving! Also great for tablet/card weaving, just weight the warp ends and hang them off the back beam. Have fun on your journey, and keep posting, please!!!

That's really smart for band weaving! I should try that! I hope to be able to set up my ideal one day again, I miss weaving on it even though I love my David

Something I’ve done with my rigid heddle loom is to wind the warp forward and then lash on to the back. I know exactly what you mean about a short warp. I haven’t tried it myself yet but I think I will give it a go.

I know you now have a countermarche loom but I would love to hear more counterbalance loom stories. I have an extremely old Counterbalance loom that an elderly lady brought with her to Australia when she emigrated here from Sweden eighty years ago. She told me it was an antique already when she had it as a young woman. It doesn’t have any lamms and I’m curious about how I should best use it. It’s really lovely madof unfinished pine which has worn from use so that the grain of the wood stands up above the soft inter grain. She thought no one would want it and her son was going to chop it up for firewood. I’m so so glad that I have it and hope to pass it on one day.
@sarakaluczaweaving2 жыл бұрын
Oh that's sounds wonderful! Really hope to have enough space to have my counter balance loom up along side my David loom eventually! What i really love about them is how they weave perfectly with such old technology. I was looking at one in a museum back in my home region that was over 400 years, that was just as you described, counterbalance with no lamms, but other than that it basically looked just like my Glimåkra!

Hi Sara, I have a David 3 loom, the 110 cm size. I find that the shed is small on mine. I have read that the shed should be 3 inches, but on my loom I barely get 2 inches. I have tried all kind of adjustments without success. Do you have a good shed when you weave ? Thank you!
@sarakaluczaweaving2 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne-Marie! That seems strange that is is barely 2 inches, that doesn't sound right. I have a nice shed, i made some adjustments when I just started to get it to where it was supposed to be. Don't think I have measured it but i have no issue getting clearance even with my end feed larger shuttles. I would post pictures in the louet David Facebook group to get help figuring out what's going on!

Thank you Sara, great videos about your David 3. I’m ordering one soon and will rewatch your videos while I wait for it to arrive. The decision of which loom I was going to buy was settled when I realized how much thought Louet puts into each new version of their looms.

I hope you dont have to wait for yours quite as long as I had to wait for mine, I managed to order mine just at the peak of first wave of covid and that big ship lodging it self in the Suez canal, it was a mess haha. Can you please tell me if there is a manual availible for a loom tike this. I am getting a loom from the Vera Bross brand but cant find much trough google. Am in the netherlands and here this kind of looms is not used often. I am a complete newby to floor loom weaving, i do have a rigid hedle loom and do tapestry weaving. But setting up and dressing the loom start to finish is what i am looking for. For the weaving itself i can find enough info and classes. Thanks

There is a book called the Big book of weaving by Laila Lindholm that is originally written in Swedish and illustrated with pictures of a loom like this that is really helpful, i have the Swedish version and it was invaluable to me when learning how to handle the loom! Otherwise I'm note sure, but Glimåkra/Glimakra still exists as manufacturers so they should have manuals! (Sorry for missing your comment)
