Such a shame for Jason to leave. The man literally got screwed over and thrown around like a basketball. The man had a true stage persona about him, I have always respected jason newstead for me to pick up my first bass and having confidence to sing on stage. This performance makes me truly emotional. Jason, keep your chin up mate! I love u brother!!

Wow…watched this in high school with 2 of my best friends. The big deal with this is VH1 was taking requests all night for what song Metallica would perform. We lost our minds when it turned out to be this one and nothing from Load or Reload. Great memories, legendary performance! 🤘

did they demo the other songs before going into the studio? or did they write the rest to fill out their respective albums? because maybe they should've just stuck with these all on 1 record

He was right to leave. Lars and james where assholes to him. Lars hasn't any right to be an asshole, he's a uselsss drummer. He was playing fade to black like it was a different sing with all those drum fills out of place

Looking back, I wish James had let Jason have his side gig. Metallica isn't the same without Jason.

No crabwalk, no braids, no helicopter, no shit. Jason was the guy and a beast behind the mic. Robert walk, sing and look like a gorilla. He can go back to Suicidal.

Jason's playing here is phenomenal. Kind of heartbreaking how into it they all are but with Jason the only one knowing it's the last time. As much as they hazed him he always kept them on their toes musically. Such a tight unit firing on all cylinders, they never sounded like this again.

And in leaving, he caused a butterfly effect that ultimately forced them to reflect on what they had become, make amends, and just be better. Jason leaving the band damn near destroyed it, but from the ashes of old Metallica, a new, stronger, wiser, and (arguably) more mature Metallica emerged. He really did save the band twice.
