Seeing you take out the liner and the foot beds of your boots to dry them reminds me of the time that on one trip I was in agony wtih my boots at the end of the first day so off to the pro shop in resort. After warming and pressing out the shell I went skiing the next day - still the same so I went to a different pro shop just across the piste. The technician took the inners out and said do you know you've got them in the wrong boots? He couldn't believe that I'd had them into the other shop and they hadn't noticed that! Got back to the chalet and told my mate's that he'd taken my lift pass off me. Why? Well he said if I didn't know my right from my left then I shouldn't be on the mountain - howls of laughter all evening. So my tip is take your inners and insoles out one at a time and mark them L&R with a Sharpie! It's so easy when you are rushing to do something else to put them back in the wrong way round!

I think leaving my bindings untouched for 5 years is what lead to my MCL ACL injury :/ I focussed so much on avalanche equipment and avoidance that i stupidly let the basics slip. Thanks for this vid Another tip, take the batteries out of your transciever and save them for when that remote control stips working (cos youre gonna get new ones for next season)

Binding setup would be a good one. Having focussed so much in the last few seasons on Avalanche awareness, I had totally neglected checking (or getting checked) my bindings for probs 5 years. As such, a recent crash has done some damage to my knee, mainly because of unmaintained bindings (along with some human factors too) which will take me out of a bout half of the skydiving season that has now started. I appreciate it is difficult to do as there's so many different types of alpine bindings

I completed the Haute Route several years ago on telemark equipment. Both nights that I left the bindings in ski mode out in the elements in freezing conditions I awoke to frozen bindings that were nearly impossible to switch to touring mode. Our guide was unhappy on the first morning and extremely unhappy on the second morning. The two issues that I've had with my shift bindings were attributed to my actions, 1) ski pre-releases due to snow accumulation under my boot and between the mating surfaces of the binding. Now I just make sure the bottom of my boots are clean whenever I put my boot into any binding and that has solved the issue. 2) ski brake would not stay up during touring, on our fourth lap I stomped the brake into the up position and when I did this I packed snow into the area which resulted in the brake being unable to stay up. I now manually lock the brake in the up position.

You raise a good point with level 3. Not sure he w many people realise that it is a combination of factors that are all rated at 3 so the scale increases exponentially. 3 is usually when the best powder is to be found and the stuff that's fun to ski is over 30° both of which are in the risky area. Looks like there was likely wind slab around where you are. That's the difference between a professional like yourself and an amateur such as myself, my lack of experience would keep me away from where you were skiing. Just got back from Madonna where the first day there was so much snow falling you could get fresh tracks every run and by the afternoon there was no need to find itineraries as the pistes were deep and fluffy and pretty much empty as I'm sure many of the beginners that the resort attracts would have found it very hard work
