As a hobbyist i want something small and portable. The ZFc feels bigger than the Fuji XT30 or XE4, or some Sony smallish APSC. Even Sony have the A7C line, relatively small but full frame. It seems like i have to go Fuji or Sony.
@brusselssprout110 күн бұрын
I really wanted my Zfc to act as a X100V alternative, but, apart from looks and excellent sensor, it does not fit the bill at all: bulkier with any lens, no integrated flash, no leaf shutter for fast x-sync, no integrated ND filter, lack of the "film simulations" mystique, very quirky implementation of analogue controls. And it is way below X100VI specs: as above + no IBIS, much less resolution, slower. So I now bought a X100VI and would sell my Zfc and its very good 24mm DX lens if resale prices were not so abysmally low. Way things are now, I'll probably keep it as emergency backup to my beloved Zf. At best, the Zfc is Nikon's alternative to an old X-T20, not to any of the X100 series.

@@brusselssprout1 I agree with most of what you’re saying. I do think the zfc is better than older generations of x100 series esp with the 28mm se bc the lens and sensor produce better results than the older x100 line.

I agree BUT the Zf has really bad ergonomics. I get it that they tried to keep the vintage look but there is hardly any grip and is heavy for its size. I'm not a professional but the Z8 feels MUCH better in my hand and yes! the Z8 is like a Ferrari!!

It was the ergonomics that I could get used to. But I do shoot wildlife, I shoot landscape, and I do shoot macro. I don’t have the money for the Z8, so I’m your honest opinion, should I trade my z6iii back to the Zf? Or just keep the Z6iii and get used to it? @@briancarlisle2534 the z6iii seems like a waste if you don’t shoot video. For your use case, I’d even consider a z7ii for the larger sensor. You can get the black color way in the US. Nikon USA website sells it as the ‘black edition’. I had one for a short time and I agree with many of your opinions. I have a Z6III and wanted to scratch that smallish, retro camera itch as a casual, maybe EDC family camera. In the end I couldn’t justify keeping it. For me, if I wanted to carry a camera that size, I’d rather reach for the Z6III which is slightly larger (but no Z8). The full frame sensor IQ and overall handling and speed of the Z6III puts it in a class far above the Zfc. If Nikon could cram a full frame sensor into a Z30 body with EXPEED 7 and IBIS, I’d be all over it. Hopefully the Z5 II goes that direction. For a minute I thought you bought the one I’d listed on EBay recently. 😂

That would have been amazing if I had bought yours. I get why you sold it. It does take nice photos but the build and speed are not up to par when theres so many good cameras around 1,000. Maybe if I could get it for 500 I'd buy it again.

Its like all my subject is pale and sick straight out of a hospital. I now regret selling my nikon d800 and 85mm f1.8G, being influnced by KZbinrs who don't even believe in microcontrast.... Not gonna lie I am upset with my current setup and thinking on maybe buying ZF or R6 and just buy old lenses. Is that a good idea? Or should I just buy adapters and hope it autofocus with FE, F mount lenses? or should I go native ZF(ftz) or R6(RF adapter)? Thank you!!
@cinemaheist821 күн бұрын
It depends on what lenses you want to use. A big mistake ppl (including myself) make is choosing a camera without first choosing lenses. If you are comfortable with Nikon lenses then I'd go ZF. With the ZF I'd consider voigtlander Z mount lenses or the native Z glass. If you really want to use G lenses I don't think the ZF looks good with an adapter. For G lenses I'd just buy a D810/850. I personally love EF L lenses, like the 135mm f2 - one of the best portrait lenses Ive ever used. Or the 85mm f1.2 L is also great and both lenses can be had pretty cheap. And if you go the EF route I'd personally try for a used R6ii or an R8 if you are on a budget. Hope this helps!

Great video, do find the manual focusing of the contax lens on the ZF accurate and relatively easy/quick?
@cinemaheist821 күн бұрын
Yes I find the peaking on the ZF good enough to quickly nail focus. It's even better on the Z8 bc of the better EVF and the lens+adapter balances better on the Z8. Personally, if I was starting from scratch I'd use Z mount voigtlander lenses on the ZF bc of the balance and the green confirmation box when you focus which is even better than peaking.

I think the biggest issue with this camera for a lot of people is the 4K 60 line-skipped, since most of us wedding videographers shoot at that frame rate, its ridiculous that we don't get it for a 4,500 price tag with taxes, how come the R5C can oversample 4K at 60fps from 8K 60fps but not the R5 mark II with the same processing power and now a "digic accelerator" -OVERHEATING- perhaps? well, Canon, you have 4 years to figure that out, even tho you kinda did it in a half ass way we have to rely and spend xtra on a fan, at least you could've gave us the option to use that feature for getting that d4mn fan.

Indeed. Lens rendering is a subjective thing. A lot of people want to make it scientific, as if it was as simple as "how detailed a lens resolves" or "corner sharpness" or "lack of chromatic aberration" but personally I don't believe that you can reduce lenses to those measurements.
@mainmain53032 ай бұрын
I guess you don’t like perfect lenses. You like lenses with optical flaws that add some drama. That’s fine. That doesn’t make the Z lines lenses “not investment worthy”. You’re missing the point. Lenses that distort and add a specific look that you may like but I may not, is a bad industrial product. Sorry, your copy of the car cannot be different from mine. What people need from a modern lens is consistent great result which can then be manipulated in post. That’s the professional workflow. You are free to adapt any E or EF or F or L mount glass to the Z mount. But ALL those mounts aren’t optically perfected. One day you will use the Plena or the Noct and go “ohh too sharp, too good.” What do you think a good lens is? A belied system? Some cult? Boss! No. I bet come back with a video and describe 5 and 10 crisp single line parameters of what makes a good lens. That will not allow you to beat around the bush like this and will probably help you make a sharper point. Here is 5 points that I look for: 1. No or minimal fringing 2. No or imperceptible vignetting 3. Soft bokeh, but should not look digitally smoothened. 4. Reaches highest sharpness by maximum 2 stops down from wide open. Ideally 1 stop down. 5. Stunning contrast against light, with absolutely minimal ghosting. When these conditions are met, the image quality looks 3D, rich and immersive. What are your requirements that you can sharply write down? Do that, and then we discuss what lens is investmentworthy.

My theory re Canon "not catching up" is . . . Japanese culture stresses accord and deference to other Japanese and in business to other Japanese companies. So if that is true. Canon slowed its growth so other Japanese companies could catch up to Canon and keep the camera market essentially an all Japanese market. A few years ago Sony was new to the SLR still camera market and Nikon was in decline. Now Canon, Nikon, and Sony are all robust (and the 7 dwarfs are still hanging around), so Japanese dominance in the camera business persists. As the camera biz is a small part of Canon, they could play this kind of game without financial risk. Just my opinion.
