The fact harry thought it was his mum or father that saves him. Hes swore to protect harry because he loved his mother. Dies without ever knowing. Not until his death we see how important he really was. He accepted a fate so awful. And suffered. And not he had to pretend to hate the last person he actually loves. That's Harry, the part of her soul thats love protects harry. Hus magical power is unique. He can sense danger... He didnt trust it until lilys death when he knew he was different. And trusting it since. Hes been following harry ever since. Preventing his harm.... Btw harry asking who he is he cab sense the connection to but like him doesn't understand the gift.

@@Elizabeth_Stewart_Edits in the books he is a little more ruthless and creepy tbh but in glad they did This for the film. In the books he admits he told where lily and James was but the agreement was he got lily. He killed them all and after that he helped destroy him. But he is directly responsible for their deaths. In the books it's seems wormtail does. But he was just played. Snake stuck a secret deal but the dark lord wanted to kill lily because she was so damn smart and had ancient magic in her blood. He knows James line was related to the 3 brother of the deathly hallows. So he wanted the cloak. Voldemorts wand was actually left and sealed in the house after his spell bounced off harry. Just small details never in the film
