SM7Bs have lost a lot of quality and sound since they are made in China. It's not worth paying that much money for junk.
@westernjaguarmusic
@westernjaguarmusic 6 күн бұрын
That actually would make sense. Changing where it’s made and the parts used could make a huge difference. Maybe it’d be worth comparing against an older one! Interesting idea 💡

I encourage you to do such a test and leave a review as soon as possible. If Shure is looking for cheaper production, then perhaps they are also looking for cheaper, i.e. worse components for their production. Currently, the Rode Procaster wins over the SM7B even though it is more than twice as cheap. And your SM7B is China? or Mexico?

Thanks for the great review. I've always been curious about this microphone. I thought being a dynamic one would make a difference with the untreated room reflections, I can actually notice that someway using ole SM58. But for what you say, no game changer. Perhaps one needs to leap to much more expensive ones to notice real differences. Anyway it seems like a handy mic for recording other instruments too. Have you tried recording an amped guitar?.
@westernjaguarmusic

I have not tried it with guitars yet but it is on my list to try for sure! Definitely a handy mic to have in the mic locker, that’s for sure!

I've always been an NT-1 hater (probably just because it doesn't flatter my particular voice) but I actually preferred it in the blind comparison. Also, major props for having the balls to share your unprocessed vocal takes with the with the world like that 😆
@westernjaguarmusic
@westernjaguarmusic 12 күн бұрын
Haha thank you. I was honestly cringing so hard at the raw vocals but it was necessary to see the differences! I have a love/hate relationship with the NT-1 - I always think it isn’t that great but something about it just keeps me in on it. I really dig it on acoustic guitars and vocally it seems to fit my voice pretty good! Also like the MD-421 from time to time

Thank you WJ for being a real one and not praising that thing for it's brand and offering a real review. The truth is dynamics aren't a game changer for reflections or anything else. If the mic is quality enough to be a game changer... it's going to hear an echo just as well as it's condenser counterparts. Where the SM7B really shines is being able to be very dynamic without clipping. You can be much louder on a dynamic without clipping the signal chain which makes them amazing for expressive dynamics. I feel like everyone that reviews them kind of puts them on a pedestal they shouldn't be on. They are a different tool, not necessarily a better tool. Great review and great song man.

Believe me, I went in with every intention to crown this microphone as a game changer because really that’s all I had heard from others! But ya, the results kinda stunned me. I try to just be authentic to me and it was pretty clear that in my set up, which I think is similar to lots of people who record at home, it wasn’t that big of a difference in the quality. I think it’s another good reminder to use what you got! What you have is good enough!

I have an SM-7B as well, and I love having it in my arsenal. I used it for the vocals on “Another Day off the Calendar”. My go-to for lead vocals is my Lewitt 441 Flex; the question is usually: Do I want that more condensor-mic-ish detail with the Lewitt, or do I want a warmer, slightly more analog-ish sound and if so, I go 7B
@westernjaguarmusic
@westernjaguarmusic 13 күн бұрын
Yeah I definitely don’t think the SM7-B is a “do everything well mic” but that being said, it definitely does have something to it. I plan on keeping it!

Excellent pedal..!!...Have found my Retrosonic Chorus sounds close to the original CE 1.....Which we all should have bought in the first place...!!!...They were expensive at around £130...in 1976 here in UK..built like a tank..to last forever...!!!...I was too busy with marriage and motorbikes to manage it then...!!!!!!!

I've actually been in the market to finally get a chorus pedal for my rig, thanks for the rundown. I think a truly classic pedal is the ProCo Rat, great for adding tons of gain in front of other effects or just providing some simple crunch
@westernjaguarmusic
@westernjaguarmusic Ай бұрын
ProCo Rat is 100% a classic effect. So many things are modified versions of that circuit. I highly suggest if you can find a CH-1 used you pick it up… new price, may not be totally worth it, but for used market chorus pedals, there ain’t a better deal in my opinion
