how many ball types/layouts/sursfaces/rg & diffs should you need as a minimum??
@FloppyPENGuinn2 күн бұрын
Great question. It ultimately depends on what level you want to bowl at. As you bowl more tournaments on different sport shots you would need more. For league bowlers I would typically say 2 or 3 layouts is normally good to cap it off at. So things aren’t too confusing. Surfaces you can always adjust to make it shape more or less so that’s good to always try when you aren’t experiencing the desired reaction. Types & core differences depends on the bowler. The more matched your revs and speed are, the more difference you will likely see between cores even with the same standard layout. Thanks!

you refer to 3 3/8 pin to pap being the most aggressive but that is the max flare potential of the ball. that combined with a high Val angle would be the most aggressive layout. also, you have 4 3/8 on your layout. mistake or intentional? thx
@FloppyPENGuinn2 күн бұрын
So, looking back on it I wish I had explained this part better when I said “most aggressive”. I would love to remake this soon to explain it better as I’ve learned more over the years. By “most aggressive” (3 3/8”) that means it’s going to use the most energy before it enters the roll phase. Therefore, most aggressive means it won’t hook as much right-to-left because it’s burning up more energy in the midlane. Combine that with a high VAL angle and you’ve got a good down-and-in motion but would probably struggle to move far left with that ball unless you have a high rev rate

Shiny on a 50ft heavy oil pattern??
@FloppyPENGuinn6 күн бұрын
The tip here is in the core strength. Both of the bowling balls featured (and others) have very strong cores, so for myself I benefit from more shiny because it stops it from burning up as the pattern starts to transition. I am a rev dominant player, whereas a speed dominant player would be better off with more surface to help the ball roll. The shiny wouldn’t work well on the fresh of a 50-foot heavy oil shot, but as it progresses into games 2 and beyond you’d see me using it since my dull equipment would likely burn too much energy in the front and mid lane

Is there a reason you didn’t suggest the IQTour or the Ion Pro, or Hammer Effect Tour balls, as “benchmark” shapes? What you stated about the Phaze II and Super Cuda is certainly true, but benchmark shapes could also work well on medium patterns, no?
@FloppyPENGuinn12 күн бұрын
You are correct. There’s a lot of bowling balls, and to mention them all is very tough in a 1-minute window. I honestly went with 2 I knew were easy to showcase in the video, however there’s lots more that work as well
@joehoenig759612 күн бұрын
@ understood and of course, it’s impossible to discuss all balls that could work for a given lane play situation. For me, benchmarks are important when you don’t know the pattern, such as Nats, and you are traveling by plane and have to guess which ball-up and ball-down options to bring with you.

Good information explaining what the graphs says. One problem though, this did not teach us how reading the graph tells us "how to play the pattern" which is all we care about anyway. When I look at a graph I want it to tell me where to target on the lane for the most miss room and best carry. A follow up vid explaining that would be appreciated.
@FloppyPENGuinn13 күн бұрын
You’re absolutely correct. I need to do a follow-up to this video on playing the pattern described because the primary goal of this video was to explain how to read the graph. So applying that knowledge is important, as you said. I will say, I have a related video on my channel linked here you should also check out before you completely discount the topic. I should expand on it more, though, nowadays. I will jot that down on my list. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5rFlpJ3nJZrgrcsi=_3RVKyDTxAqJ1ry4
@joehoenig759613 күн бұрын
Could you also speak to the need to read pattern sheets a bit deeper than just pattern length? A pattern can be longer in length but with such low volume, that it can play like a shorter pattern, for example. If we only look at length, we can be fooled. Thank you

You might want to try this sometime: Measure your oval angle, which is 90 degrees to your thumb escape angle. Draw a line on the ball through the center of the thumb along the thumb escape angle. It will be up toward the pinky finger. Drill the thumbhole along this line with your desired linear pitch, and zero lateral pitch.

seems like a lot of shots to figure out how to play. I don't have a whole game to waste in a tournament . warmup on fresh are misleading a lot of times. it doesn't tell you with the people who are on the pair what's gonna happen. I stay far right as possible until I see what's happening . usually more miss room early so I adjust with speed until I find (or figure out ) the miss area. to me finding the HEADPIN first because I know I'm IN the miss area that way. Hopefully in 2-3 frames I'll be close.

This video is intended for league bowlers that bowl on their same house shot week-after-week and want to improve their average. Unfortunately, there’s no “one size fits all” when it comes to bowling adjustments, but also I wanted bowlers to be able to see what adjustments I make after warmup is complete and during their normal league games

I spent several years on staff with Turbo, therefore I use the SwitchGrip and prefer it personally over the others. The point in the video was simply to say the reason to use any of the systems is the advantage of having multiple sizes 🙂
