I love Blind Buys I love discovering movies I have not seen , aren't Familiar with and it's just plain fun for me . I'd say my Blu Ray / 4k buying is like 75% blind buys. I also like it Cause it's kinda similar to discovering movies in the video store days. I did the same thing, but at least now Yes, it's cost more , but if you love something that you just blind bought you own it, win win! Also I LOVE Effects and I love Comando Ninja so much and I have watched so many times, I think it's due another watch😁

Fun show as always! I liked Challengers, didn’t love it, but absolutely flabbergasted it didn’t get a nomination for score. Glad to see that feeling was echoed here. I genuinely loved Wicked, probably driven by the fact that I loved the stage show, so I’m not necessarily against all the recognition it’s gotten. That being said, I feel that most of the other nominations in its many categories are more deserving. I won’t be devastated if it goes home mostly empty handed. Love that some horror is getting some attention in the noms for Substance and Nosferatu.

Looks like Alien: Romulus was absolutely robbed of a production design nomination but that's nowhere near as egregious as 2020: Texas Gladiators getting snubbed for best upgrade in the Shelf Shock Awards (which I take 1000x more seriously than the Oscars.)

Start a grassroots campaign! Get everyone to write it in! I hate that it wasn't there, as well. The leaps from VHS or DVD to 4K or so much bigger than a good Blu-ray to 4K. I hate it.

So does VCI do blu ray? I only ask bc they have a dvd of The Deadly Companions (Peckinpah) but no blu ray i think. Need to get that rectified in 1080p!

They DO do Blu-ray, but they don't seem to be focusing on those types of upgrades very much and they are generally not the highest of quality.

Am I remembering wrong or was Coffin Joe the only Arrow release last year that needed a replacement disc. I'd call that progress. Of course, they already fucked up in the first month this year. Sooo...

I THINK that was the only one issued by Arrow last year, but I know they’ve been called out for more things last year. Hell- Inglorious Basterds is supposedly not playing certain supplemental features on certain players. Could be two discs already in the first month.

There has been a re-release of the acrylic Dune Ultimate Edition from Plaion/Koch with all the innards but different (more conventional) packaging. I got it for around 70€ on amazon.

Keep was a way bigger deal than Hard Boiled and Killer. They had DVD releases, they had a US blu release in 2011. Keep had nothing since VHS except that Australian DVD. Who even knew about that DVD? I never did. Did you cover it?

If it was JUST Hard Boiled, I would agree with you. I was saying that the announcement of all 156 titles was the biggest deal in physical media in multiple years. Obviously it’s not super fair to compare 1 film to 156, but that’s the only way to approach a press release like that. I believe I did cover The Keep buuuuuut… it was before I was even doing KZbin haha so just on instagram and stuff.

Popcorn and movie snacks at the start of any film can improve an otherwise average or shitty film, at least until your food runs out. Shortens up the amount of time you have to give attention to just the movie.

I totally get that! If I was going to the theater much more often, I would definitely agree. Like I don’t have snacks at home while watching movies. But yeah, at the theater, I try to treat it as an event usually.

@@brianwalton6283 it is a region free release! As far as I am aware, every single release from Imprint Films is labeled as region B on the back but the disc itself is region free.

Amanda Reyes is great, but what a crappy swipe at the Hysteria Continues. You’re better than that. The Hysteria Continues is one of the few commentators who don’t act they are above the material (a guy named Troy could take a cue from them on this) and are actually fans of slasher films. They still manage to share lots of info, without straining to present themselves as “film historians”. Oh and they seem to truly like interacting with each other.

@@Rweaver oh, man. I gotta fully disagree. They are one of the only ones who DO seem to think they are above the films they cover. The commentaries I heard by them were mostly swipes at the film and now I won’t listen to a single track they’re on. There is a large number of commentary fans that truly do not enjoy how they speak about films. It’s far from just me. I’d rather listen to Troy Howarth speak on a film any day of the week compared to them. Just my opinion, of course.

Lars Von Trier signed up to dogme agreement in 1995 with Vinterburg and Jean Marc Barr with Korine as a partner and then went on to break it with Breaking The Waves, Nymphomaniac Directors cut is so underrated as a film I would like a 4k. That Curzon set of his films is superb.

Hey Ryan, I’ve been watching you for a few years now and I’ve never recommended a movie to you but I have to recommend Once Were Warriors. I was disappointed that you nor Will were able to discuss the film but what can you do? There are endless movies out there and you can’t see all of them. Once were Warriors is one you want to see, though. It’s the hardest hitting, most real feeling film I’ve ever seen. It will give you hope for humanity while completely crushing your soul. Movies were forever changed for me after seeing it. Thanks again for everything you do, Aaron

my kingdom for "Abby" to be restored... we've had crazy restorations happen in 2024 just gimme this ONE thing!! but also while begging the physical media wishlist gods: "Jewel Thief" (1967) apparently has a 4K scan that was shown recently so can we please get that on a disc in the states (I'm PRAYING that the 4K "Sholay" restoration from that French label helps open up Indian cinema to more releases). lets beg more and say Turkish horror should be getting releases! There are so many Turkish horror franchises! I haven't even dug deep and I've seen like 5 series with 4+ movies. The Dabbe movies are mostly all on KZbin and Siccin are mostly all on Tubi, but gimme them on discs plz! There's also the "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" series from the Philippines that's had like 15 entries with the most recent one being on Netflix.

I missed the live chat. Totally agree with Will about the huge void of John Sayles in HD. Seems strange at this point to have so many titles from a director of his calibre not represented on blu-ray. Its almost as bad as Don Dolar. Good conversation about extras. I remember a supplemental from somewhere with Wes Craven talking about how audio commentaries were the intro to film school for a whole generation and he wished he could've had those to listen to when he was starting out.

How close is the Kingdom trilogy to the "Kingdom Hospital" TV miniseries that Stephen King adapted based on it? I was a bit disappointed with the SK miniseries and never saw the original movies.

Same here with Green Room, Ryan. As a lifelong metal guy, the whole mise-en-scène of that film was 100% familiar to me, like I could see it feasibly happening at almost any of the tiny venues around Glasgow where I would see underground black and death metal bands. So much so that I got panicked during my first viewing at the cinema and had a fainting episode in my seat! 😳 I’ve revisited it many times since (sans fainting) 😂

@@TheDiscConnected Oh man, back in my teenage years my big gateway into that world was the Norwegian black metal stuff like Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone, Emperor, etc., but I’ve always enjoyed staying up to speed with “the scene” as it were. Remember hearing stuff from Midnight’s Satanic Royalty album playing over the PA in Green Room, which was a big favourite of mine a year or two prior. How about yourself, any particular highlights in terms of putting on gigs? I used to go to so many in my teens and twenties especially, but never had the nerve to put one on (some fairly established promoters in this city, alas).

I was coming up in the metalcore height. So most of the ones I hosted were of that type or maybe even close to pop punk sometimes. I know August Burns Red is viewed as gods nowadays and I once ACCIDENTALLY saw them five times in one year. I hosted an excellent band named Phinehas who is still active and then there is an incredible indie band named From Indian Lakes that played acoustic at my house before they were big. I miss those days sometimes!

I LOVE Christmas movies ! I know you aren't really a fan but I'm on the complete opposite side of that. Scrooged is my favorite christmas movie and I love Bill Murray movies . My Favorite Christmas Horror Movie is Silent Night Deadly Night . Some of my other favorites are The Santa Clause 1,2 and 3, Home Alone 1 and 2, Trapped in Paradise, The Ref , Black Christmas, Christmas Evil, Dont open will Christmas, Christmas with the Kranks, Mixed Nuts, Jingle all the way , Deadly Games and so many more 🩵 Another Great week Ryan ! I recently watched Severins "Spider Labyrinth" 4K. It was a total blind buy and i was very positively surprised. Great little italian gem. Also loved the relatively frank and lengthy Interviews. But the highlight was the commentary track. Very informative with, i thought, the right balance between seriousness and levity. I doff my cap to you both. xD
